The Five Senses of Summer School

Ahh, summer, the light at the end of every student's tunnel. After nearly a year of staying up late to finish semi-pointless schoolwork, ignoring a teacher's wave in the halls in an effort to avoid the mortifying "her-teacher-is-her-best-friend" label, and putting up with gag-inducing cafeteria specials such as "Crunchy Tuna Surprise," summer has never felt so good. That is, of course, unless you're sitting in summer school. [Cue the horror music.]

Instead of frolicking amongst the flowers while singing Grease's "Summer Nights," summer-schoolers enjoy a...different lifestyle than that of out-of-schoolers. By different, I mean different in all senses:

Chris Listens: Australians, Vegetarians, and Summer-School-ians

I’m proud of you, Sparklers. In last week’s double installment of Chris Listens, we tackled some tough questions, and the outpouring of support in the comments really warmed this blogger’s heart. I want to sincerely thank everyone who chimed in—especially those who shared their experiences with depression and sleazy guys. Thanks for being there for each other! We’ve got another batch of confuzzling conundrums on the digital horizon, so start scrollin’.

My bff from 7th grade and I are really close. I always looked at him like a brother, and I thought he thought I was like a sister. He’s one of those guys that I’m really comfortable with because we are so close. Last year, he started to lightly compliment me, telling me I look beautiful, that I have amazing eyes, silky hair, that kind of stuff. I took it as him being nice. This year, when I got a cell phone, he acted really nervous when asking for my number. Then whenever he texted/called, we would playfully flirt. Then all of sudden, in the middle of the year, it got deep.

Condensed Summer: A Schedule for Summer-Schoolers

We here at SparkNotes have to apologize. We've been getting so excited for the summer break and we've written so many stories about all the fantastically fun things we're gonna do with our time off, that we forgot something: summer school. Yeah, we know it really, really blows when you have to attend class with the sun beating in through window, taunting you. And whether you're in school cause you need to revisit some algebraic formulas or simply because you're one of the more than 2 million students on the year-round, abbreviated summer break schedule, we feel your pain.

But even if you only have a single weekend to pack in all your summer fun, we have a plan for you.  You may not have endless days of sweet boredom, but you can certainly find some time to hit the high notes.  Here's your one-weekend-only, jam-packed, condensed summer schedule:
