Time for Hillary to Give Up? May 7, 2008
There seems to be no end in sight for the two contenders for the Democratic presidential nomination. It was thought that, if dealt a hard enough blow, former First Lady Hillary Clinton would drop from the race and support her rival, Barack Obama. Unfortunately (or fortunately, if you support her), she refuses to give up. Having hung on to win Indiana’s primary on Tuesday, she has stated that she is staying in the race “until there is a nominee.” That could mean we won’t know the Democratic nominee until the Democratic National Convention this summer!

No “Free Tibet” Gestures Allowed at Olympics May 6, 2008
The Olympics are supposed to be a time of international athleticism, cooperation, and forgiveness, if only for the few weeks of the competition. The 2008 games in Beijing, China have already been marred by protests during the torch relay. The issue? Freeing Tibet, which is under Chinese control. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) this week reiterated their policy that political protests by athletes will not be tolerated. The Olympics “are not a stage for different kinds of political statements about issues such as armed conflicts, regional differences, religious disputes and many others,” an IOC statement said.

Did Miley Cross the Line? May 2, 2008
It was Britney Spears who put it best when she sang, “I’m not a girl, not yet a woman.” Since her time as the reigning pop tart megastar, these lyrics have seemingly become the credo for more than a few starlets navigating their own rocky paths from wholesome ingénues to racy tabloid fodder. There’s Christina’s “Dirrty” phase, Lindsay’s multiple trips to rehab, Paris’s stint in jail, Vanessa’s naked Internet photos, Britney’s custody battles, and the baby mamas: Jamie Lynn Spears and a purportedly glowing Ashlee Simpson. So it doesn’t seem too surprising that the teen superstar of the moment, Miley Cyrus, would want to put her own stamp on this venerable tradition.

Ling Ling the Panda Dies May 1, 2008
Japan’s Ueno Zoo is going to need to start searching for another main attraction. Ling Ling, the beloved giant panda, has died at age twenty-two. That might seem young until you convert his age into panda years: Ling Ling was actually pushing seventy and was the fifth oldest male panda bear known in the world!

Britney Ready For Her Comeback? Oct 18, 2007
What do you think about Britney Spears making a comeback? Many people think she should not be back in the music business right now, instead at home worrying about her children. Personally, I think it is okay for Britney to make a comeback, but I think instead of writing a song talking about “Gimme More” she should be writing songs about how she really feels. She may act like everything peachy keen with all her wild nights of clubbing, but we know that after someone gets divorced, after all the drinking and partying, there comes a time when you hit rock bottom. Britney hasn’t hit it yet, but when she does, she is going to start to realize that she needs to get her act together before it’s to late. Right now she can only have her children once a week, and she has to do many drug and alcohol tests. For me to be able to keep my children one day out of the week would be heartbreaking. In time Britney Spears will start doing the right thing. We just need to give her time.
