Jason Castro Booted After “Dred”-ful Performance  May 8, 2008

I came to a realization on Tuesday night, while watching Jason Castro flub his way through Bob Dylan’s “Mr. Tambourine Man.” Despite his forgetting the lyrics, and having destroyed a classic Bob Marley song earlier, I wanted him to win. All my indecision from last week over whom I preferred was gone: his voice would be the one I missed the most, if voted off. And yet, at the same moment, I knew my new favorite was going home. It was a sad day for me when my fears were realized: no more Jason Castro.

A Lost Cause: Imagine That  May 6, 2008

It is hard to say what is real and what is imagined on a show like Lost. We have no way of knowing if we are seeing ghosts, if characters are dreaming or losing their minds, or if crazy things really do happen to the crash survivors—which keeps things interesting. This week we had many occasions to questions the characters’—and our—sanity.

American Idol: The Final Four  May 2, 2008

It doesn’t seem too long ago that male stripper-turned-American Idol contestant David Hernandez was getting the boot, and yet here we are with only four pop-star wannabes left holding the mike. It was with some measure of sadness that I watched Brooke White depart the stage. When she sang those folksy numbers she was beautiful to listen to, but, unfortunately, “I’m A Believer” wasn’t one of them. On Wednesday, the gentlest, sincerest, and perhaps flightiest contestant to ever grace the show was gone.

So who’s left to battle it out for the greatest opportunity in today’s fickle music industry (see Taylor Hicks)? And whom do I think will win? Better yet, whom do I want to win? I have a pretty good record so far. My early favorites have been Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken, Fantasia, and Jordin Sparks. (And yes, I know Aiken didn’t win, but he came darned close! And where is Ruben now, anyways?) I missed most of Carrie Underwood’s season, but I picked her in the finale. So it troubles me that this year I find myself unable to settle on just one.

A Lost Cause: Finally, Some Answers!  Apr 30, 2008

We Lost fans complain a lot—and rightfully so—about the lack of answers the show provides us with. Each episode supplies only a bit of insight while simultaneously posing several questions, which, we can all agree, gets frustrating. This week is a different story. For once, we have a change, and it comes in the form of answers and explanations. But don’t get too excited—there are a slew of new mysteries as well. Care to discuss some of them?

As preparation for the return (again) of Lost, we offer a recap of the last episode that aired.

Finally, some answers! We now know what happened to Michael and Walt when they escaped the island. We know what Michael’s life was like and how miserable he was. We understand why he is on the freighter and introduced himself as Kevin Johnson. The question now is: What happens next? Read more…
