At the Movies: Iron Man  May 5, 2008

When thinking about superheroes who would transition well to the big screen, Iron Man has never been the first character that comes to mind. However, the film, which was released over the weekend, was a hit with critics thanks to a talented cast and a capable director, not to mention audiences hungry for the first big summer action movie. Did it live up to the hype?

Home Video Rundown: Stardust  Mar 12, 2008

Stardust is like a small handful of candy—sweet and tasty, but not nearly enough to keep you satisfied for long. Although the film’s intentions are good, it, as a whole, seems just short of being a complete success. So, now that it’s over, why did it even begin and what happens next?

Home Video Rundown: Volver  Feb 6, 2008

Volver is a hard film to summarize. Though the story is fairly simple, and I use simple freely, the movie has a lot going on with all of its characters. This never, however, harms the film. In fact, Volver is only made better by the quirky characters Pedro Almodóvar, the film’s director and writer, puts into it. Even though the story is indeed creative, it is the characters that he puts in that make this movie, not only memorable, but amazingly so. Read more…
