It turns out that all the gossip about Mariah Carey getting married was true! The singer, who is thirty-eight, married twenty-seven-year-old actor Nick Cannon (Drumline) in the Bahamas. Their engagement lasted five days and came about after six weeks of dating. Their April 30 nuptials featured both of them in brilliant white, and, in addition to rings, each has gotten a tattoo to represent their devotion. Mariah’s reads “Mrs. Cannon” while Mr. Cannon has “Mariah” across his back. Let’s hope their relationship doesn’t go the same way Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder’s did. Depp changed his “Winona Forever” tattoo into “Wino Forever.”
On June 18, rapper and actor Ice-T will be performing with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. Yes, you read that right. The longtime “Law & Order: SVU” detective won’t be playing an instrument, however. Ice-T will narrate “Ask Your Mama: Twelve Moods for Jazz,” a Langston Hughes poem, while images of photographs and paintings are projected at the back of the stage. The ISO and the McCurdy/Wright Jazz Quartet will accompany the narration of the poem. For more information, check out the orchestra’s homepage.
Singer Ne-Yo is celebrating Mother’s Day in Atlanta with fifty mothers, hosting a brunch for single and foster moms. “They need something special,” he said. “So with the success I’ve been given, through the blessings I have, how could I not use it for good? This is a way to help people who deserve it—for both the mothers and children.” He hopes to bring attention to the need for reformation of the foster care system. Having been raised by his own single mother, who cared for him, his grandmother, and five aunts, all while on welfare, single and foster moms are held close to his heart. His own mom is proud of her son’s Mother’s Day plans, saying, “This is the best thing so far he has done to give back to the community.”
