Did Miley Cross the Line?  May 2, 2008

It was Britney Spears who put it best when she sang, “I’m not a girl, not yet a woman.” Since her time as the reigning pop tart megastar, these lyrics have seemingly become the credo for more than a few starlets navigating their own rocky paths from wholesome ingénues to racy tabloid fodder. There’s Christina’s “Dirrty” phase, Lindsay’s multiple trips to rehab, Paris’s stint in jail, Vanessa’s naked Internet photos, Britney’s custody battles, and the baby mamas: Jamie Lynn Spears and a purportedly glowing Ashlee Simpson. So it doesn’t seem too surprising that the teen superstar of the moment, Miley Cyrus, would want to put her own stamp on this venerable tradition.

The thing is, did she? There’s no doubt that Miley made a big leap from Tiger Beat to the glossy pages of Vanity Fair when she posed “topless,” draped in a silk bed sheet in this month’s issue of the fashion magazine. But a high-end photo shoot with Annie Leibovitz, a photographer whose artistic sensibilities I happen to enjoy, hardly seems like reason for the media furor this has created. Sure, it’s a provocative idea seeing Miley playing the Lolita. But is a fashion photo shoot really on par with, say, homespun naked snapshots circulating the Internet? What’s clear is that the media has Miley destined towards a downward spiral. Already, the coverage has gotten antsy Disney executives reportedly selecting a new heir to take over for their tainted cash cow.

What’s your take on the story? Overblown or completely justified?

I don’t like her. At all. She hasn’t done anything except for mediocre acting and pre-pubescent singer, and yet she is more popular than dirt. But these pictures are getting blown way out of proportion. Look around at myspace. I see worse things at school (and I go to an all girls Catholic High school), and no one cares.

I feel bad for her. Sure, she shouldn’t have done this; her young fans are probably confused. But let it go and it go away.

Am i surprised about what Miley did…NO not at all.. i think it was bound to happen because they were trying to make her seem like a cute lil girl from TN but shes the exact opposite shes an uncontrollable teen.. and i think that all the girls that admired her should just not… because she proved to the entire world that shes no role model and that shes no one to be proud of… and its sad because her parent condone that kind of behavior which means thats shes not done yet… I believe this means that she cant be on Disney Channel anymore.. but then again what do i know.. i could be wrong… but her show should be taken off the air.. but thats my personal opinion on this situation!

miley is still a kid..and her fan base are children. so what happens when you put a what, 15 year old, infront of a camera and tell her to pose with only a sheet?a bunch of little confused kids who dont understand why their hannah montana looks half naked..and dont forget the kids parents who then think she is a bad role model cuz she should not have done it…did she go to far?yes..however is it overblown?i think so..we keep seeing this kinda stuff..i dont see why it keeps surprising people..

This is probably one of the most ridiculous issues i have ever come across while surfing the net. This “issue” is so idiotic that i just had to create an account on this website to reply to what i have been reading. First of all, she’s what 15, and she’s doing a photo shoot, do you really think she knows whats best for her? Vanity fair probably told her to do this and that, and she went along with it thinking they know best. Again she is 15, at a photo shoot, the photographer told her what to do, and she is gonna question that. It’s like questioning a pilot while on a plane, if he or she tells you lets drop down to 1000 ft of altitude, what do you say? (your probably thinking whatever just do whats best). Same situation here. Second of all, WiThYoUx33Xo wrote that her show should be taken of Disney channel, why because of a photo shoot? It’s not like the pictures where on Disney channel or a kids program. And noirbelle wrote “miley is still a kid..and her fan base are children. so what happens when you put a what, 15 year old, infront of a camera and tell her to pose with only a sheet?a bunch of little confused kids who dont understand why their hannah montana looks half naked”. Again how would the “bunch of confused kids” even get a hold of these pictures, since when do little kids read or are subscribed to Vanity Fair? If there smart enough to get a hold of these pictures then there smart enough to understand that they are just pictures to sell more magazines. There is a lot more i could comment about, but some of us have lives and don’t obsess over every little thing “celebs” do or don’t do.

i thought she would be the last famous person to take a photo like that.

Miley Cyrus is a really pretty girl, and she seems sweet, but when you see that picture, you know right away that shes done for. MILEY CYRUS CROSSED THE LINE BIG TIME

[6] Posted by: iluvchrisbrown | May 5th, 2008 at 12:05 am

this is a stupid aricle…im pretty sure that the children who are fans of hannah mantana and miley cyrus aren’t ready vanity fair…adults are ready it and the only way the kids are going to find out is if they are shown the picture by there parents are the media…..if you look at the picture absolutly nothing is showing but her back, her bathing siut is probably more revealing then that picture…i think that we should just leave stars alone and let them live there life they are people just like us and im sure they dont want there whole life plastered everwhere they look

[7] Posted by: dopey04201990 | May 5th, 2008 at 5:49 pm

As dopey04201990 eloquently stated, ‘her bathing suit is probably more revealing than that picture’. And I’m sure there are many pictures of Ms. Cyrus in her bathing suit available to the general public without controversy.

This whole incident shows how there is a major double standard in our society when it comes to celebrity actions. It is always a big deal when a female celebrity goes to rehab or gets in trouble, but nobody seems to care half as much when the celebrity is male. For example, this article only listed female celebrity escapades. Um, hello.. male celebrities fool around and go to rehab too!!

Remember the 4th Harry Potter movie? 15-year-old Daniel Radcliffe had a shirtless scene where the camera filmed almost to his abdomen. And all anyone said was ‘wow, that’s hot’. But when Miley Cyrus shows her back and some of her shoulder, it’s a huge controversy and everyone is saying how she ‘crossed the line’. Society is so sexist that it makes me sick!!

[8] Posted by: frannygranny92 | May 5th, 2008 at 9:46 pm

This is all a bunch of crap. Yah what Miley did was a bit provacative but at least she covered! Seriously, all she did was pose for a photo shoot in an ADULT magazine. My little sister loves to watch Hannah Monntana, but I dont think she’s started reading Vanity Fair. Plus look at the kid who plays Haryy Potter, what he did in acting is creepy, what Miley did is reasonable. Shes a celebrity, they do all kinds of crazy things, but I dont think we should judge her on one photo shoot. Personally I think shes one of the best role models for my little sister, she doesnt shave her head, or make constant trips to rehab. I think the media just took it way to far and I say give the girl a chance!!!

[9] Posted by: Stinger125 | May 6th, 2008 at 1:08 pm

I just want to put an end to this Daniel Radcliff crap, and mention that these movies are being made in Europe, where there are naked women on billboards as you drive down the street. Nudity is much more common there, and a shirtless teenager is absolutely nothing to them. If you want to bring up the nudity and the sex scene in his plays, then lets remember that he is an 18 year old adult. hannah cyrus or millie montana, yes this is being blown out of porportion for now, but don’t be surprised if she’s in rehab or the maternity ward anytime soon.

[10] Posted by: Pearberr | May 6th, 2008 at 7:53 pm

I don’t think that this whole thing is a big deal…why does everyone care so much about other people that they don’t know?!?!?!?!!?

[11] Posted by: chambersk007 | May 6th, 2008 at 11:13 pm

People need to get over this whole “miley so bad” thing. For real, she’s not even fully naked. Get over it. She’s a real teenage girl too.

[12] Posted by: HeyGirl09 | May 8th, 2008 at 8:59 am

incase anyone did not notice this was all over television…i did not read it in a newspaper or a magazine for that matter…thats what i meant..anyone could have seen it, even kids…

MisterSam55…her age is no excuse…so you are telling me a 15-year old is incapable of knowing right from wrong?…your comment just proved that she should not have been there if she was not ready to deal with the consequence..she was unprepared…a 15 year old should be smart enough to say NO when put in an inappropriate situation…no amount of money or fame should have clouded her decision!…

let me remind you, jamie lynn is pregnant…but i guess according to you it alright because she’s just, what 15 or 16, and did not know what she was doing because everyone around her was doing it right?

daniel radcliffe is 18 years old if he chooses to do a show nude fine…but miley is a kid..its the idea she potrays in the picture..if she wanted to potray growing up and being a woman, there were other ways…

this isnt about obsessing over people..its the idea that it is happeing…i dont know miley i dont like her show but that doesnt mean i hate her..its the image she potrays…one moment she every little girls role model the next theres pictures of her half nude across stands..i would not like my little sister to think something like that is fine because miley or jamie lynn did…thats the problem!!

[13] Posted by: noirbelle | May 8th, 2008 at 6:24 pm

People are making a way bigger deal of this than needed…her dad was there when the pictures were taken, and obviously he didnt care…so just leave her alone…i’ve seen way worse on some websites of girls younger than her…

[14] Posted by: pinkishot07 | May 10th, 2008 at 4:29 pm

Miley Cyrus is a supposed role model for kids. And if she dares to take on that role she should act like it. There is no excuse for her posing in the Vanity Fair shoot. Many kids around the age of 6 and 7 watch that show and as their oldersibligs say things about

[15] Posted by: lizzippi_luv | May 11th, 2008 at 3:18 pm

Honestly she looks like something off of a horror movie………….

[16] Posted by: ceecee4life | May 11th, 2008 at 4:08 pm

I cant believe she would do something like this. I dont like her to begin with, but thats not the point. There are many young girls out there who look up to her. WHo buy all her merchandise and try their best to attend her shows. Hell, my fiances little sister knows all her songs. The point is, young females everywhere look up to her. Look at the example she’s setting for them. Miley Cyrus is a young teenager. By her taking provocative photos photos she’s basically telling young girls its okay to do what she’s doing.

[17] Posted by: driven2succeed | May 11th, 2008 at 9:14 pm

i feel that what she did was uncalled for..she 15 and at that ae i would think that you are somewhat a responsible persona nd you can tell the difference from whats right and whats wrong… there are a lot of young gurls who look up to her..now what atr e they going to say when they see their role model and the person that they look up to taking these pics..she still should know her limits and the photographer should have used her head about what type of pic is appropiate for a 15 year old to be taking…it doesnt matter how famous you may be but you still dont forget about where you were before you became famous and would you have taken these pic and if you were not famous…because of these pic i have lost alot of self respect for her and what she was supposedly about

[18] Posted by: misslovely2008 | May 12th, 2008 at 12:38 am

I’m not surprised she did this… i know plenty of girls her age in my school that have done worse…. these pictures aren’t bad at all… me and all of my friends are like.. its just like a Swimsuit… its nothing more revealing…I saw this comming when you could tell by the show that she was becoming more mature…. just drop it and leave it alone… like i said its nothing worse than a swimsuit

[19] Posted by: Slamnsam | May 13th, 2008 at 9:06 am

Yeah she is 15, and everyone now days does a bunch of crap when they are 15. Her parents had to have been okay with it for her to do it. Kids who look up to her aren’t going to see it unless their parents show them. Now days it really isn’t anything much to show you back! ASK A KID WHO LOOKS UP TO HER IF THEY HAVE SEEN THE PICTURE OR IF THEY HAD HEARD ABOUT IT!!! IT THEY HAVE ASK THEM WHAT THEY THINK ABOUT IT THAT WILL GIVE YOU THE REAL ANSWER!!!

[20] Posted by: adushane | May 13th, 2008 at 5:12 pm

if anyone has looked at the picture closely you can see she isn’t completely comfortable. but i know at 15 if a photographer from vanity fair asked me to pose like that telling me that everyone will love it and like me more. or that it would make look older and adults would respect me as and adult than i would have done it. also they probably said that to her parents as well and thats way they allowed her to take the photo. they were all probably complaining to her publicist that they want her to appear a little older so that people will take her singing career more seriously, which is why she got into disney in the first place, to help boost her career. they don’t want people seeing her as the little teeny- bopper from a disney chanel show. if anyone remembers hillary duff started in disney and when she wanted her singing career she had pictures taken that showed her looking more like an adult and less like a kid. maybe they werent so bold but she did the same thing. basically i dont think miley did anything wrong.

[21] Posted by: shorty072105 | May 14th, 2008 at 8:29 pm

god people!! scale this down a bit… this picture was down by a professional photographer and nothing is showing that shouldn’t… its just like a swimsuit, quoting from above… but its funny if you look closer you can see she’s got goosebumps all over her body hahaha

[22] Posted by: poiprincess1094 | May 14th, 2008 at 9:06 pm

she needs to get over her self!! i love the pic but she is a little too young! but she shouldn’t complain if she was there and new what the pic where going to look like!!!!! she just is loveing all the attention this is giving her! WHO does she think she is!!!!!!!

[23] Posted by: ericajo14 | May 15th, 2008 at 2:19 am

Yeah I totally think she has crossed the line. She is what 14. She looks as if she could be 17. She needs to enjoy her child life and not ruin it for herself.

[24] Posted by: golffreak6 | May 15th, 2008 at 8:55 pm

Yes. she made a mistake. It’s not a proper thing to role model for her younger audience. Remember though that it hard for her to act like a ‘proper’ role model all the time. She is still 15 almost an adult but still some kid left in her. She wanted to do the shot and maybe didn’t think of all the ramifications. While she is displaying a little more risque look than someone her age and position should, she’s not displaying anything inappropriate. Give her a break and let the matter drop. Most people wouldn’t have even known about the shot unles the media had made such a hype of it. I’m not a Miley fan, but I have more sympothy for her now.

[25] Posted by: lildoryblue | May 16th, 2008 at 11:15 am

Miley has been entirely exploited. i don’t like her, I’m not showing any sympathy for her, but when you put a fifteen year old in the spotlight and tell her to fend for herself, things can go wrong. I don’t think she did anything inappropriate in this shoot — it was all “for the sake of art.” But honestly, when a child jumps to fame like Miley did, you can’t expect her to be perfect.

[26] Posted by: yayyforjamiee | May 16th, 2008 at 1:40 pm

I hate Miley Cyrus, no offense to her. She shouldn’t be doing these things!!! Oh God, Im having an Equuis Flashback.

[27] Posted by: DavieArista | May 18th, 2008 at 4:58 pm

amm i think this whole thing about miley doing that photo shoot for vanity fair is complete bs bc she has more skankier photos and they make a big deal out of this one which is meant for a grown up magazine-its not like a 6yr old would read vanity fair—they should leave her alone about this photo and she doesnt have to apologize for it-plus ahe probably wasnt naked–its clled makeup, duh.

[28] Posted by: clearo | May 18th, 2008 at 10:06 pm

i am not a fan of miley. i hate her acting and singing, but i feel that people need to GIVE HER A BRAKE! shes a teen and still growing up. shes still finding out who she is and where she wants to be in life. we all experience things that can eather make or brake us. yes, it was a bad move to make for her disney channel career, but she shouldn’t be defined by the clothes she wears, the mistakes she makes, or what the meia and rumers say about her. –stay strong Miley, and be yourself!

[29] Posted by: x_DJ_x | May 19th, 2008 at 4:04 pm

I dislike Miley alot, but my 12 year old younger sister loves her. My little sister saw these pictures and thought it was okay to pose like that. Next thing I know I go on myspace and see her posed in clothes, or lack there of, just covered up in a sheet herself! I think that Miley’s father and vanity fair should suffer for this. Miley herself however, is just a kid and should be cut some slack. Kids do go through those stages, after all.

shes pavin her road to hell is you ask me…..what is she on???

[31] Posted by: Bottumsup | May 20th, 2008 at 3:03 pm

It’s not a big deal at all! Let her do what she wants to do! It wasn’t even that bad; it wasn’t like she posed for Playboy or something. When I first heard about this, I thought it would be a really slutty picture, but then I saw it and it wasn’t bad at all. I honestly don’t understand why everyone is making such a fuss over it. If I were in her shoes, I probably would have done the same thing.

[32] Posted by: MAEdayPARADE | May 20th, 2008 at 7:44 pm

People spend too much time worrying about celebrities and what the celebrities are doing. Worry about yourselves and leave these people alone. Like their music, watch their movies, and yes, think about if these people are affecting you in an adverse way, but please stop making forums about them and how they act and what they wear. The world would be a better place.

[33] Posted by: tammi_alley | May 21st, 2008 at 8:39 am

All you guys are stupid…like for real. do any of you have lives?? i mean seriously, does it hurt you personally. the girl took a freakin picture with her back out. who cares??? its not like other 15 year girls dont do way worse things. shes probably not even a virgin. kids mess up and do stupid stuff, its apart of being a teenager. you all should just chill. ITS NO BIG DEAL!!!

[34] Posted by: kabonbon822 | May 21st, 2008 at 1:19 pm

some of these comments are so hypocritical its not even funny. How many of you have done something you’re not proud of? or taken a pic in your swimsuit which actually shows less then this pic of Miley ever will. She’s only 15 for goodness sakes so back off!
At 14, 15, 16 there are girls getting PREGNANT (Jamie Lynn?) and some just a couple years older that have COMPLETELY naked pics floating off around the internet (Vanessa Hugdens?
). What Miley did was completely innocent compared to that. And while I don’t know her personally, I’m gonna say that I bet she STILL is a virgin. Not everyone is a skank who does things like that at 15.
And even thought taking this pic probably was not the best thing for her to do for her career, that doesn’t mean any of you have the right to judge her. None of us like being criticized and judged for our slip-ups and mistakes, and neither does she. Golden rule anyone?

[35] Posted by: SamiJo08 | May 21st, 2008 at 6:35 pm

i’m just i freshman at a high school but i think that Miley is advocating an image that would confuse most Disney Channel viewers. i think likely that she’ll end up like any other teen actors, taken examples of Lindsey, Ashley, and others that i might not know of.

it is just sad that she took the photo and end up this way. :[

[36] Posted by: omgizsonny | May 21st, 2008 at 9:55 pm

As a parent myself, I think it is very silly that this has other parents in such a rage. My daughter doesn’t read Vanity Fair, she reads Nickelodeon, she doesn’t watch E Hollywood late breaking news, she watches the Hannah Montana show, enjoys her music and wears her clothes. I monitor what my kids watch,do and listen to, I have it on lock down.

If your child is reading Vanity Fair or watching E Hollywood late breaking news, you shouldn’t be mad at Miley Cyrus…

I don’t feel that anyone has the right to judge her. NO ONE IS PERFECT, we all make mistakes. Everyone is great at pointing fingers and playing the blame game, but why are we so harsh on others and not ourselves..?

I feel the clothing and over done make up are too adult for her. Keep in mind this was a photo shoot and she is wearing pants under the sheet. I’d like to say no 15 year old dresses like a 20 year old, but unfortunately there are some that do. There are girls younger than 15 that dress worse and they aren’t posing for a photo shoot.

I feel Miley is a great role model. I like her and so does my daughter.

[37] Posted by: Amaya13 | May 24th, 2008 at 11:33 pm

I thought it was questionable. Everyone makes mistakes, and every teenager suddenly discovers they have a body to show off. Whether they choose to or not is their decision. If I were Billy Ray, I would at least have had them pull the sheet up higher in the back. It was a stunning picture though.

[38] Posted by: muggle303 | May 25th, 2008 at 7:22 pm

i think all of you guys are taking this way too seriosly. i am a teenager myself and its very hard to deal with things that happen everyday around us. imagine how it would be if you had to live your life while being watched by others? shes still learning how to live life and all you guys are doing is criticizing someone elses life. i believe its hard enough to live a life period, how is it for her while everything she does is being criticezed by people who dont even know her? i think you guys expect her to be perfect while its impossible. nobody in this whole universe is perfect. wat if she never mean to be a role model for little girls? wat if she did not know she was going tio be expected t be perfect? because no one would have ever thought of that. right now there are millions of mothers talking crap about her saying how its a bad influence for their kids. i think you are criticizing her life while dont even looking at ones own. for gods sake, shes 15! wat do you expect from her? we all make mistakes in life. the good part about others is that barely anyone stops and recognizes it. instead for her, there are millions of people saying how she messed up. shes still trying to learn how to live like EVERYONE ELSE..but she has to learn in from of other people. i think instead you should be taking care of your life and stop criticizing her since all you guys are doing is looking up to her with hatred waiting for her to make a mistake. she is not going to rule or conduct the world so she can make mistakes like the rest of us. think of how you would be at this moment? trying to live a life expected to be perfect while being only 15 years old
id say all the people criticizing should look at their own lives and think how its not perfect and after that think before you say something about other people because believe or not, nobody in the sake of this world is perfect.

Omg. Seriously i think sum ppl are makin such a big deal out of this!!!! I mean if she had posed topless with her boobs or somethin showin, i would agree that that is inapropriate…But all u cn see is her back, its as if she was wearing a shirt with a low back!!!! The pictures are supposed 2 be artistic!!! and i dont think theres anything wrong if the little kids hu are her fans see this pic, becuase there is nothing bad about it!!!

[40] Posted by: gdsmile | May 27th, 2008 at 6:02 am

ok i dont get why everyones flipping out over this photo its not like its extremely racy or pervoctive or implying anything like that. its soposed to been understood in a way thats its beautiful. shes not a kid. shes a teenager. and believe me many girls my age have worst pictures on their facebook. the only thing its showing is her back. AND WHY ON EARTH WOULD A GIVE EVEN KNOW ABOUT THIS TYPE OF STUFF? im pretty sure kids dont sit there going through vanity fair anaylizing all the pictures and articles. god its not even that racy. its not like when paris hilton went and took those pictures in maxim in transperent lace wear. god. you people need to calme down. worse thigns have happened. i assure you.

This is absolutely, without a doubt, the dumbest thing I have ever had the displeasure of reading. Not the article mind you but the responses below me.
First off, lets address the facts. REGARDLESS of the fact that this young woman plays a character on a Disney channel show, she is in fact 15 years old. Second fact, the photograph in question is in NO WAY offensive to any one with a brain.
She is in fact NOT a little girl, as Disney would like to portray and had the permission of her parents (who were on set during the shoot) to participate in said photographs. The photos were taken in an adult context FOR AN ADULT magizine. I don’t see many 8 year old girls reading Vanity Fair magizine, so the bottom line is until people like you started blowing this all out of proportion.. no 8 year old girl ever stood a chance of KNOWING ABOUT THE PHOTO. Thirdly.. people like Britney Spears are created, by the public.. and by people like Disney.

If you stifle a young girl and don’t allow her to age appropriatly then she will eventually make the wrong choices and become less than the young woman she could have grown up to be. Call it teenage angst or rebellion or whatever label you wish to slap on it but the fact of the matter is we have ALL been through it and if any of you HAVE a daughter you have or will see this phase. Proper guidance (which Miley Cirus has) is a very important thing at this age.

This young woman has parents who care about her well being and don’t spend their time trying to stifle their childs creatity at the risk of losing something as lame as a Disney deal.

Point in fact - Miley Cirus often wears very tasteful and adult oriented clothing such as heels and spaghetti strap gowns. No one has EVER made any comments about her attire being “too adult” for children at any of the functions (cmt awards for one) that she has been to or hosted.

Before you open your mouths and start spouting off ridiculas garbage someone else regurgitated perhaps you should step back and think about what it is you are saying. She is NOT a little kid, regardless of the fact that she works for Disney… she is a very beautiful young woman who is quickly approaching adulthood and took a leap and experimented with a very nice, artistic photograph only to be slammed nine ways to Sunday and called a slut.

Grow up.

Okay. . .I just did the same thing as one of the people who had already replied. . .I went through the trouble of creating an account just so I could comment on this issue.

I am a year older than Miley and I believe that this issue has gotten way outta hand. Like come on. . .do people have anything else to do than point out everything wrong someone does . . .especially a yound women like Miley. She should not be critized for doing this because this is just her exploring something she has never done before. Her life isn’t as easy as many people may thing. Just imagine you every move being watched be millions of people around the world. . . well it is kind of hard not to make a mistake since we are human and no body on earth is perfect. I find absolutely nothing wrong with this photo and she’s not even “half naked”. . . she probably has less fabric covering her when she’s in a bathing suit. . . and don’t we all wear bathing suits that show skin?!

I believe that people should stop critizing her and mind their own business. And if you don’t like her so much why do you even bother saying anything. Remeber that thing from Bambi “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.”

And I agree with VirtueShadow . . “GROW UP”

[43] Posted by: dee_105 | May 28th, 2008 at 10:48 pm

Why don’t you people get a life? It was her decision to make and has nothing to do with you. If you don’t want to see the picture, AVERT YOUR EYES. And some of you people that say she was conned into by the publicist, what are you thinking? This is a young woman that has a HUGE career in T.V, singing, and other accesories, do you honestly think that a photographer could just con her into taking the pictures? She knew exactly what she was doing and it is none of your business to say whether or not she crossed a line.

Personally, I think it was just the shock of teen-pop-sensastion-hannah-montana/miley-cyrus-who-needs-to-be-a-role-model-person was posing nude. I mean if it was some random celebrity like Kiera Knightly or somebody nobody would have cared. But just the sheer fact that she is considered a role model for millions of 6-12 year old girls that was the shock of the whole pic. Hey what did you expect from Anna Leibovitz anyway? :\

get over it, she apologized, so at least shes being mature about it. its really not that big of a deal

oh god, Miley Cyrus showed her bare back in a magazine. That whore!

I am an incoming junior in high school and I just want to say we have a very strict dress code where I go to school, and I still see worse than that picture every day. There were no boobs, no buttcrack, it is the same as if she was wearing a low backed shirt. It is even less revealing than a swimsuit. If kids haven’t seen worse than that already, they will eventually. I mean, just walk in to wal-mart or the mall on a hot summer day and you will see at least one person who is wearing a skirt with their butt hanging out and/or a top with their boobs falling out. Plus, my opinion is that kids should not have celebrity role models. Their parents or older siblings should be their role model. I don’t see the big deal about the picture.

i think that she is a freaking slut

im sorry but this isnt a bid deal at all, all you see is her back!

you people are crazy. I’m not saying that I’m really a fan of Miley’s but she didn’t do anything wrong. She took pictures. With a professional photographer. For Vanity Fair. Which is, as I’m sure you all SHOULD be aware, a magazine that displays very professional, “artsy” photos. They’re not nude pictures. She’s not naked. It isn’t Playboy or something. Seriously. We’re not in the freaking 1920’s anymore, kids.

I hate miley but what’s the big deal? She was draped in a freaking bed sheet! There are random people that show more skin than that on a regular basis and people say nothing to them. It’s so stupid. I, personally, find it to be artistic.

[52] Posted by: waytoocool13 | June 6th, 2008 at 8:40 am

Yes, no one gives a crap about her

[53] Posted by: keon010 | June 7th, 2008 at 8:44 am

I don’t see anything wrong with what Miley did. While I am not a big fan of the media turning young star photos into little more than soft core porn - I actually find the Miley spead tastleful. Usually they are posing in bikinis’ or short skirts with barely there tops. In the Miley photo’s all you see is her back!

I really don’t understand what the big deal is. I see more skin on girls when I go to the beach!

[54] Posted by: Lypifera | June 9th, 2008 at 4:39 pm

I COMPLETLY agree with you Lypifera. I am in love with Miley. She is amazing. You should all be ashamed of yourselfs, I bet you have done worse!!!!!!!

I see nothing wrong with that image of Miley. It contains no sexual conotation at all. All it shows is her boney back.

[56] Posted by: SummonerXI | June 12th, 2008 at 12:52 pm

Parents need to understand that Miley cannot remain a sweet, innocent little child forever. She’s 15 already, and is very successful and down-to-earth. In fact, you never see her in pictures like these. There’s nothing wrong with the picture. It was only a photo shoot for a magazine, and this picture is what the photographer’s vision of Miley, (I’m not trying to blame the photographer either…) and it’s up to the photographer to interpret Miley’s look to be captured on film. Besides, it’s not AS revealing as, say Linday Lohan’s Vanity Fair or Britney Spears’ Sports illustrated pictures. You only see her back and part of her side.

I feel that this picture does not cross the line. It was meant to be artistic, and many people decided to blow it out of proportion, because people love a scandle, especially when it has to do with someone who is supposed to be a good role model for children.
There are other pictures of her circulating the net in which she HAS crossed the line, and you know what? She’s 15. She may know right from wrong, but she’s still a teenager. People make mistakes. It’s just a question of whether or not she will recognize and rectify her mistakes or if she will spiral out of control.

As for the kids…I’m very sure that they don’t have a yearly subscription of Vogue magazine. If they want to look up to her as a role model, then fine. It’s really up to their parents.

Well, I never really liked Miley in the first place, her show is stupid and she CAN’T sing, and no, I don’t care what you say about it. And I know that she’s what, 15, 16? Whatever, she doesn’t need to be posing for pictures looking like THAT. And that one pic she did with her dad looks more like a pic you’d do with your BOY FRIEND, not your FATHER. And yes, Miley, there is a difference. And furthermore, her songs sound like something sung by some 9 year old. She’s not nine, but she’s also not twenty-nine. She needs to learn how to act her age, and her father should be teaching her, not by throwing her behind of a mic in front of a TV. Her image has turned her into someone who acts like a little girl all the time, so she appeals to little kids, then wants to act older and scares everyone with her practically-nude photos.

R u all mad? Wat is the thing to make such a big issue? She is just a teenage who is showing a back? I agree that her swimsuit must be more revealing!! Its the 21st century guys. Wake up!!!!!

[60] Posted by: coolcuttie96 | June 20th, 2008 at 4:44 am

I think wat’s the big deal. Its just a teeneager showing her back. I agree with frannygranny92 that her swimsuit would probably more revealing than this pic. Its 21st century guys. Wake up!!!

When this first happened, I was extremely surprised at the whole idea that Miley was turning into a Britney, or so it seemed. But now that I think about it, its not that bad. People have mostly forgotten about the whole thing now, and most parents aren’t making their children stop watching the hit show “Hannah Montana” and Disney hasn’t said anything about cancelling the show. I DO however agree she should probably not have taken that photo, because she is way too young to be giving off that image. I don’t even think Britney went there at THAT age. But, she is forgiven by me and I realize that people make mistakes. Choosing the words “I feel so embaressed.” (Miley said this to the photo), are probably not the best words to use when you are trying to make yourself look better and apologize, but she definetly tried and is ovbiously ashamed of the picture.

i dont see why this is an issue. its her body and she didnt think it would come out to be this bad. i think everyone is just taking this way too far. Shes not the first person to do this you know. I personally thought the picture was pretty its not like she was in some sex tape…

[63] Posted by: shantaeluvsu | June 24th, 2008 at 10:22 am

I really think this has been a bit overblown. I mean, it\’s not like she\’s showing anything more than her back, for one thing. For another thing, the shot looks deliberately artsy–it reminds me more of a Renaissance painting than anything, anyway. And for another, Vanity Fair *is* an adult magazine, and chances are if the media *hadn\’t* gone into a frenzy over this, her fanbase would never have seen it. Also her father was there, and generally speaking a teenager in a healthy relationship with her parent is going to do something if her father gives her permission, which he presumably did. It was probably a little indiscreet, but more because of our stupid media than because of anything actually wrong with it.
