As students at Virginia Tech return to classes and mourn the passing of so many, the events of April 16th continue to resonate on campus, around the country, and around the world.
There are few good answers or explanations for why this tragedy happened. Many have focused on the issues of gun violence and the horror of school shootings. In addition, though, Cho Seung-Hui’s rampage has given fresh light to another topic often overlooked in relation to shootings: mental illness and the lack of adequate treatment and care in this country for people with mental health problems.

All the efforts from votefortheworst.com, Howard Stern, and all those tween-age girls may have delayed the inevitable, but Sanjaya Malakar was finally voted off American Idol last week. Sanjaya’s vocals were the weakest in the competition, but his enormous grin and his always changing hairstyles made up for his lack of experience and talent.
