More songs came out over the last few months than just omnipresent singles “Crazy” (Gnarls Barkley) and “Promiscuous” (Nelly Furtado and Timbaland). It seems, however, like those are the only tracks I hear on the radio, on TV, or even playing over the loudspeaker in my supermarket. There is so much great music that gets released that, inevitably, some of it falls through the cracks. Because I’d hate for you to miss something terrific, here’s a collection of some of the best tracks released over the last few months.
Sometimes life is bad, like when you think you have your dream job and you come to find out it mostly consists of stuffing envelopes, fetching coffee, and ordering lunches. And sometimes life is great, like when you get to watch Heidi do all of the above and listen to her say really dumb things about it all. Ahhh… Watching The Hills is like having Christmas every week of the summer: I get everything I want and a whole lot more.
Graduation, an event eighteen years in the making, is a thrilling time. You are leaving high school, moving forward, and starting a new chapter of your lives. But with all the excitement leading up to the big day—finals, prom, visiting relatives in town to celebrate your accomplishment—it can be hard to catch your breath and actually enjoy it. The day you get your diploma ends up being a blur of pictures and parties, that you’ll later only remember attending because you’ve seen the photos. Lots of people are going to be spewing advice at you—about the past, the future, and remembering to wear sunscreen—but mine is this: remember to have fun. Whether you were the prom queen or the captain of the mathletes, these last four years have shaped you into the person you’ve become. So make sure you take the time to enjoy the day set aside to celebrate that. You only graduate high school once!
Another day, another awesomely bad MTV reality show. The Hills, a spin-off of the ever so successful Laguna Beach, follows L.C. as she spreads her wings and flies, leaving her friends behind in Laguna and traveling far, far away to… L.A.? Well, I guess that’s farther than anyone else went. We will watch as L.C. balances her schoolwork, an internship, the endless fun of L.A., and, who can forget, some more Jason-drama. I can sit here on my high horse and claim that this show is boring, no one needs another MTV reality show, and that there is no way any of this is real, but who am I kidding? I live for this stuff!
It’s baseball season and that means warm, summer nights spent outdoors, rooting for your favorite team while enjoying the peanuts and hot dogs that may taste gross everywhere else, but are salty perfection at the ballpark. What could be better? Well, the one thing the ballpark doesn’t have (besides enough ladies rest rooms!) is a decent soundtrack. I mean, I can only take so much corny organ music and taped renditions of that annoying song that goes, “Na Na Na Na, Hey Hey Hey, Goodbye.”
