The OCD - Volcheck, Your Nose, Dude… It’s Bleeding  Apr 28, 2006

A writer’s note for all loyal OCD readers:

Dear kids,

As it goes, I’m leaving SparkNotes. Why, you might ask, is this guy, Will, telling us this? Well, I’ll tell you why, just give me a second, man. Who, you should be asking yourself, will be writing the OCD? Who will continue to pick fights with the OC writers? Who will carry on the legacy of using the words “chick” and “dude” more than once per column? Who will continually allude to Alex and Marissa’s lesbian affair? The answer is… me! Although I’m physically leaving SparkNotes headquarters, I’ll be somewhere out in cyberspace (most likely, my desk at home) writing this column every week (save vacation days, hot dates, and anything else I happen to be doing instead of watching TV on a Thursday night). So you’ll still get your weekly dosage. I might even start writing about some other shows.

Adventures of a Teen Novelist: Chatting with Maureen Johnson  Apr 27, 2006

It’s hard to classify YA writer and teen chronicler Maureen Johnson. Her books cover a wide range of issues and environments, each communicating such a personalized point of view that it’s tempting to see the author in each story. For her own sake (and safety), we hope that Maureen hasn’t experienced all that she’s written about, but the fact that her devoted fans believe she has is a testament to her impressive ability to craft honest, funny, heartwarming characters we want to know and be best friends with.

Six Dollar Mix: Spring Break Tunes  Apr 26, 2006

Springtime is here and you know what that means: Spring Break! Time to leave the books, studying, and stress behind for a week of unadulterated fun in the sun. According to MTV, that means that it’s time for bikinis, sunburns, and debauchery—but it doesn’t have to be. Sure, I like to imagine a Spring Break where the weather is beautiful and the company is fun, but rather than “hot body contests” set to the latest Nelly club hit, I like to imagine my friends giggling on the beach or getting a much needed massage as some mellow tunes keep the mood light. MTV’s Spring Break may always be tuned to booty-shakin’ crunk, but my vacation would feature some tunes that are on the softer side.

Silent Hill: A Disaster of Monstrous Proportions  Apr 25, 2006

So it was raining on Saturday in New York City. I’m not talking about a little pitter-patter here and there—I’m talking a full-on April downpour. My buddy suggested we go see a movie. What better diversion than a movie on a rainy Saturday? So my friend (who will go unnamed, for his security) picked Silent Hill, that new horror flick that topped the box office last weekend. He told me it was based on a videogame, which honestly didn’t entice me all that much, but I was intrigued by the title. Could this be a Ring-type freak-fest? Might this involve scantily clad women being chased by knife-wielding menaces? So I said, “OK, dude. Let’s go see this one.”

The OCD - Y Tu Mamá También  Apr 17, 2006

First things first. I would like to say that I was extremely saddened and shocked to read an article on the New York Times‘ website yesterday that hinted at FOX possibly cancelling the OC [“Many New Shows Teeter on the Brink”]. I cannot put into words how empty my life would be without this show. It would be so empty that I’ve written a poem about my emptiness:
