Shakespeare Couples, Ranked from Most to Least Dysfunctional

#3: Ferdinand & Miranda

The romance of this couple from The Tempest plays out on a beautiful island. Miranda’s father mostly leaves them alone as he directs his attention toward tormenting the other characters. Ferdinand lovingly finds joy in any work that serves Miranda. As a nice touch, Miranda is the one to propose to Ferdinand, which he accepts. The only thing holding this couple back is the fact that Ferdinand was the only man Miranda had ever seen, except for her father, at the time of her proposal. Maybe she truly loved him, or maybe—just maybe—he was just some guy who wasn’t her dad.
