Rowling also knows the power of words to do damage. When she revealed that Dumbledore was gay, Westboro Baptist Church raged and said they would protest the fictional wizards' hypothetical marriage to Gandalf (haha, what). Rowling put the church on blast. She wanted to push back against hate speech-- because words have the power to harm, and they also have the power to help.
