Titus Andronicus by Shakespeare: Titus bakes Tamora’s sons into pies

Literature is supposed to make you think, and sometimes this means staring at the pages in horror and wondering why Shakespeare felt the need to write this plague upon your eyeballs.

In Titus Andronicus, Titus and Tamora are two nobles who hate each other, and they seem to think the only way to solve this conflict is to begin murdering each other’s kids. After their respective revenge plots spiral out of control, Titus gets back at Tamora by killing her sons and baking them into pies. The cherry on top is that he only mentions this after Tamora’s already finished eating

Somewhere in there, a guy is stabbed and thrown into a pit. This play isn’t a barrel of laughs, is what I’m saying.
