5 Books We Would Love to See Gender-Swapped

The Great Gatsby

I might be alone in this, but there’s nothing I want more than a nine-episode Netflix miniseries where Jane Gatsby is an enigmatic and well-to-do flapper who falls in love with the idea of love and ultimately pays the price for it. Her long-suffering friend, Nikki Carraway, watches the whole thing play out and disparages the excess of the American Dream—all while having a casual fling with some guy named Jordan Baker, a professional golfer who’s bad at driving.

The original novel incorporates a lot of gender politics into the plot, and I think it would be fascinating to read or watch a thoughtful, well-done version where things were reversed.
