QUIZ: Is This a Great Gatsby Quote or a Lorde Lyric?

QUIZ: Is This a Great Gatsby Quote or a Lorde Lyric?

Warner Bros./YouTube

Lorde was sent to us from another time. That’s the only explanation I can come up with as to why every single one of her lyrics is so gloriously Gatsby-ish. In fact, I will personally bet you everything in my purse (that’s a whopping three dollars and twenty-seven cents, and I’ll even throw in the nine mini Kit-Kat bars I keep stocked for emergencies) that you won’t do better than 7/12.

1. "Tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther."

2. "Don't you think that it's boring how people talk?"

3. "I guess I'll go home into the arms of the girl that I love."

4. "Their eyes met and they stared together at each other, alone in space."

5. "It's in your bloodstream—a collision of atoms that happens before your eyes."

6. "All the double-edged people and schemes—they make a mess, then go home and get clean."

7. "So we drove on toward death through the cooling twilight."

8. "I'm waiting for it, that green light. I want it."

9. "They're in their finery. A hundred jewels on throats, a hundred jewels between teeth."

10. "It takes two to make an accident."

11. "A new world, material without being real, where poor ghosts, breathing dreams like air, drifted."

12. "Men and girls came and went like moths among the whisperings and the champagne and the stars."

Elodie

In real life, she goes by the name Courtney Gorter. This is a closely guarded secret, and you're the only one who knows about it, so be cool. You can follow her on tumblr or Twitter if you want, but it's just going to be a lot of complaining.
