Sparklers, we are basically hyperventilating right now. BECAUSE J.K. ROWLING IS OFFICIALLY WRITING A NEW HARRY POTTER-RELATED THING. Yep. You read that right. We're going to get MORE of the wonderful wizarding world of Harry Potter!
Rowling is writing a screenplay for a new HP spin-off, a movie called Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. You'll probably recognize that title: it's the name of one of Harry's textbooks, as well as one of the small, spin-off books that Rowling wrote for charity a while back. Rowling was pretty clear that the film won't be a prequel or sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the world around Harry.
The film will focus on the author of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Newt Scamander, beginning in New York 70 years before Harry Potter starts. The wizarding world's basic features will remain the same, but the story will be new. With this exciting news, we have some important questions we're dying to know the answers to:
- The story starts in America—does this mean we'll finally get to see the American wizarding schools?
- Warner Bros. says this is the first in a series. Does that mean we'll eventually be introduced to Rolf Scamander, Newt's grandson who eventually marries Luna Lovegood?
- Will there be a Quidditch Through the Ages spin-off as well?
ARE YOU NOT DYING OF EXCITEMENT? What do YOU want to know about Rowling's new series?
