As some of you may or may not know, I recently went on a 2 week family vacation to Virginia. Here are some of the pictures I've managed to scavenge.
At the Luray Caverns, there's a special room that holds the world's largest instrument: the Great Stalactite Organ. Invented in 1954, the process of tapping over 3,000 stalactites with tuning forks in order to find the perfect note took 3 years to complete. To make the instrument work, a node is used to tap the top of the stalactites lightly, therefore slightly vibrating the crystals inside, and to amplify the sound. They've even held over 500 weddings down there! ~ levackkid
