Miley Cyrus Twerks On Vincent Van Gogh

Miley Cyrus Twerks On Vincent Van Gogh

By kat_rosenfield

Whatever you think of Miley Cyrus and her latex-clad butt shenanigans at the 2013 Video Music Awards, there's no denying that the performance has inspired some serious (and smart!) conversation—from debates over appropriation and ratchet culture, to questions about the validity of shock value as entertainment, to some expert skewerings of the pearl-clutching peeps who can't believe that this 20-year-old former Disney star is acting like…well, a 20-year-old former Disney star.

But of all the great work to arise from Miley's twerk-tastic collaboration with Robin Thicke on Sunday night, this collection of images from Buzzfeed has to be the best thing: a case of art imitating life, with an illustrated, animated Miley rubbing her wayward behind all over some of the greatest paintings in Western history. Our hands-down favorite has to be The Scream, in which someone has given the distraught, bald subject of Edvard Munch's most famous work something to really howl about—but the perfect placement of Miley in Magritte's Son of Man is pretty…well, perfect. And now we know why the couple in American Gothic looks so perturbed! We wouldn't want that business rubbing all over our freshly washed farmhouse windows, either.

What do you think of all the crazy Internet ephemera that Miley's performance has spawned?
