We're Entranced By John Mayer's Video For "Paper Doll"
In case you haven't heard yet, the Internet is all abuzz concerning John Mayer's new video, "Paper Doll." Some may say it's a little bizarre, but we think it's darn awesome because a) It's got a strange dance in it, b) It might be about Taylor Swift or Katy Perry (juicy!), and c) we're just entranced by the melody and calm, overall vibe. Let's break it down.
First, what is Prancercising? According to the video in the link, it's "a Springy rhthmic way of moving forward similiar to a horse's gait and is ideally induced by elation." In December, it became all the rage (again?), thanks to Joanna Rohrback's viral video. Ms. Rohrback is back, thanks to the notoriously moody crooner, John Mayer. She prances gracefully to the melody and it's so odd, pretty, and somehow... soothing. Thanks, Jo.
Okay, now on to the gossip part about this video. Several websites (Vanity Fair, Glamour, and Popdust, to name a few) are claiming that this song is about Taylor Swift because of countless references to the singer, including but not limited to a mention of "22" and "Moroccan red," which seems to be Tay-Tay's signature color these days. And why shouldn't he reference Swifty? It's not like "Dear John" wasn't about Mistah Mayer. However, we have an inkling that it might be about Katy Perry, who recently called the singer a "broken bird" in her Vogue interview this month. Plus, doesn't Katy Perry seem more like a paper doll with all her awesome costumes and red carpet outfits? Oh well, we may never know.
Regardless of all the drama, this song has a nice groove to it and watching Joanna move her hips and flit her arms around can be a little hypnotizing. Or, maybe we just need to get out of the house and away from our computer screens.
What do you guys think about the video and song?
