Why, Hollywood?: Grumpy Cat Gets Her Own Movie

Why, Hollywood?: Grumpy Cat Gets Her Own Movie

By Melissa Albert

Have you heard? Grumpy Cat just landed a movie deal! Yes, the cat with a facial expression that makes him look constantly cranky will soon join the ranks of such silver screen greats as Audrey Hepburn, Tom Hanks, and Alvin the Chipmunk. Instead of staring blankly at our computer screen, hitting refresh until someone finally, blessedly, tells us that this is just a prank, we've decided to embrace both the Grumpy Cat movie (which we're sure will make Battleship look like Citizen Kane) and the new trend of memes and YouTube stars becoming for-real famous. In fact, we have a few great plot ideas for the next big Internet-meme-turned-Hollywood-movie:

The Meows Brothers When Keyboard Cat finds out that the pet shelter where he grew up is slated to be bulldozed and made into a Baby Gap, he must round up his former bandmates, so they can play one final show to save the shelter. Featuring such vocal talents as William H. Macy as Keyboard Cat and Jaden Smith as One Cool Kitty, a young misfit and hot lead guitar cat. (All producers involved deny having ever heard of, watched, or been inspired by The Blues Brothers.)

For a Few Boxes More. Maru is a restless international crime fighter who just hung up his small, cat-sized gun, after years spent jumping into countless boxes in pursuit of justice. But when the love of his life is kidnapped by the very tabby cat he put into prison 20 years ago, Maru must re-enter Tokyo's box-filled underbelly to find her. Will he be reunited with his love before it's too late? To do so, he must squeeze into the smallest box of all: that of his own tortured past.

Ridiculously Right. Ashley is the beautiful but workaholic owner of a struggling New York City flower shop. All day long she makes beautiful arrangements for other people's happy occasions—always a bridal bouquet arranger, never a bride! Until the day that Ridiculously Photogenic Guy comes into her store just after closing time, requesting a huge bunch of roses. He starts coming in every night to buy flowers, never revealing who they're for. Ashley falls in love with his flawless smile and perfectly even features, but fears that he's giving the flowers to another woman. Have the flowers been for Ashley all along? And will Ridiculously Photogenic Guy ever realize that love is just under his perfectly proportioned nose?

How to Lose All Your Friends in 10 Days. Socially Awkward Penguin just can't catch a break. Until, that is, he invents a magical potion that makes him into Super Smooth Penguin, his cool, rule-breaking alter ego. The catch is, the potion only lasts one hour. And right after Super Smooth Penguin nabs a date with Socially Awkward Penguin's biggest crush, Socially Graceful Lady Penguin, the potion runs out. Will she be able to see past the insane social awkwardness, or will their love be just a potion thing?

What do you think of the Grumpy Cat movie? Should memes ever make it to the big screen?
