The Newer, Longer "Bling Ring" Trailer Is Out
And it starts with "Girls! Time to get your Adderall!"
-Can Emma Watson do no wrong? First she's the most brilliant British girl in the Harry Potter series and My Week With Marilyn. Then, we see her as an American teen in the '90s with a dark, but still very, very attractive and endearing side in Perks Of Being a Wallflower. Now, she's taking it a step further with The Bling Ring and we kind of love it. The Valley Girl accent, the long hair, the entitlement! Bravo! For some reason, it's refreshing to see a Brit play a spoiled Californian, especially if done well.
-Sofia Coppola is no stranger to dark teenage films nor films about lost and confused women (The Virgin Suicides, Somewhere, Lost In Translation, Marie Antoinette... all of her movies?), and we trust that she'll somehow be able to make something so nauseating like a bunch of bratty teens robbing a bunch of bratty celebs somehow look beautiful and tasteful. Though, we hope and sort of trust, in a way, that she won't be glorifying what these kids did. As a side note, if you're unsure of who the Bling Ring were, they were seven teens from Calabasas, California who robbed several celebrity homes in 2008 and 2009. These victims included Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, and Megan Fox, among others.
-The trailer shows that we can look forward to a modern and fast-paced soundtrack, with tunes from Sleigh Bells and Azealia Banks. If anything, this movie will definitely be introducing some new summer jams into our lives.
-It's going to be funny, we think! Watson's perfectly delivered "I wanna lead a country one day for all I know" shows us that there will definitely be some mockery. Plus, if Leslie Mann's in it, how could we not giggle occasionally throughout?
-Paris Hilton. Sure, we're not really big on her, but it's sort of cool that she actually makes a cameo in a movie that actually has a lot to do with her.
-The lesson. Instead of being an uncomfortable artsy film about teenagers out of control (*cough* Spring Breakers *cough*), The Bling Ring may be more of a cautionary tale about what happens when you are influenced by the wrong things or people, or at least that's the impression we're getting.
-Okay, Emma Watson again. Check out her interview with Vanity Fair about the analysis of her character, Nicki.
Oh man, we hope this is going to be good.
The Bling Ring comes out June 14.
