Yesterday, President Barack Obama publicly announced his support for same-sex marriage. With a nation split on the issue and elections coming up in November, it was a bold move for Obama—and we here at SparkNotes couldn't be more thrilled.
If you're reading this post, chances are you're part of the SparkNotes community—a community of teens who are smart, honest, thoughtful, funny, and a true joy to blog with. You've taught us Sparkitors so much, and we feel lucky to work for you. Over the last three-and-a-half years, you've opened up about yourself, and we've listened. We have readers who are gay. We have bloggers who are gay. And we have Sparklers and Manklers who are gay. So when the President says he supports the right for gays to marry, it's not just about politics. It's about you.
As editors who run blogs for the next generation of leaders, we think a lot about the future. And today, we are hopeful and excited for a future in which this country tolerates and accepts the people we care about.
