How to Make Cheap and Chic Wave Spray

By Shivani

Does anyone use wish they could use Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray everyday of their life? Is anyone else a broke college student?

Even if I’m the only one who falls into both categories, I have a recipe that replicates this crazy expensive hair product.

Quick background: I got the surf spray as a gift and didn’t realize I would depend on it for bad hair days (every day). It adds texture and the beachy waves that I really like without drying out my hair. In fact, it makes my hair soft and touchable.

When I ran out, I was really upset. I checked the surf spray bottle. Verbatim from the bottle, the ingredients are: Water (Aqua), Magnesium Sulfate, Macrocystic Pyrifera Extract (Kelp), Algae Extract (Algae), Isoceteth 20, Potassium Sorbate, Propylene Glycol, Citric Acid, DMDM Hydantoin, Fragrance (Parfum)

Water and magnesium sulfate are the two big ingredients here. Magnesium sulfate is more commonly known as Epsom salt, and is quite cheap. The rest of the ingredients are more difficult to find, but you can get the same consistency and results by following the recipe below.

Cheap and Chic Wave Spray
Makes 10-11 fl. oz. of spray

Ingredients
2 tbsp. Epsom salt
1 tbsp. hair conditioner
½ tbsp. curl enhancing gel
10 fl oz water
1 spray bottle large enough to accomodate all ingredients
(optional) 10 drops of your favorite essential oil (I use jasmine)

Directions
1. Put all ingredients in spray bottle.
2. Shake vigorously until fully combined
3. For easy breezy summer waves, wait until hair is dry and mist generously, scrunching as you go.

We're gonna try this! Anyone else into beachy hair?
