Back in the Mainstream: Popular Music that Rocks

There was a time in my life where I tried my hardest to avoid the mainstream music scene. I was sick of the overdone computer-generated beats and fake baselines accompanied by meaningless lyrics. I became prejudiced toward the music everyone else seemed to love.

But recently, there's been a change in the mainstream scene. An amazing change. Most my favorite artists still only sell where I live, or aren't popular enough to sell in my country, but there's been some incredible music topping the charts which I blast, loud and proud. Love them or hate them, I'm happy to be part of the wide variety of people that enjoy the following mainstream stars:

Adele: Angels must be jealous of Adele's soulful voice. I listened to Rolling in the Deep at least 40 times on the radio when she was in the spotlight and dominating the charts—and I still love it. So much. It's satisfying that most everyone else seems to as well, because that way no matter where you are, at least half the room will be singing along to it on the radio as well.

Ed Sheeran: I was introduced to Ed Sheeran through the Lego House clip, naturally, because it featured Rupert Grint. I'm not even a Harry Potter fan, but now, I am forever in debt to him for his contribution to the video, because without that, my friend wouldn't have forced me to watch it. If you haven't already, I also recommend listening toThe A Team and Little Bird.

P!nk: I know she's been out there for a while, but she's always been good, which is why I think her stuff is worth a mention. She is an amazing musician, which has to be why she always comes out on top. Check out Raise Your Glass and Please Don't Leave Me if you need convincing.

Foster the People: Or, as one of my friends prefers to call to them, "Hot People Band." She's got a good point. They've got style, and plenty of it. Not to mention cool songs.

Maroon 5: I'd like to say I knew them before they were cool, but they've always been cool. There isn't anything I don't like about them. If  Moves Like Jagger doesn't tickle your fancy, go back to Songs About Jane. It's an amazing album. Give She will be Loved and Sunday Morning a go. They make excellent montage music.

Coldplay: Coldplay is just good. Simple as that. I dream of being in their audience, I wish I had been there when Chris Martin was caught in his crowd, oh Coldplay, how I love you...

Gotye: This one-man band never fails to impress. Once I accidently saw him live at a music festival called Groovin' the Moo. It must have been the greatest mistake ever made. I was actually waiting for The Wombats and didn't realize I was early and that Gotye was playing. As a result my mind was blown twice in a row. Somebody That I Used to Know recently pushed this legend up in the charts. A seriously nice set of break-up lyrics right there.

Taylor Swift: I'll have to admit it at some point: I like Taylor Swift. There, I said it. I like the cheesy lyrics. The music is nice. I think she has a nice voice and she's really pretty. I'm going to go dance to Long Live now. Excuse me.

Is this mainstream music worth listening to?
