xXx_lola_xXx claims D&D is better than WoW. Anybody up in arms?—Sparkitors
I'm just going to start this off with a simple statement: Dungeons & Dragons is possibly the best fantasy role-play game in existence. Yes, to all of you gasping in disbelief, it is better than WoW. Now, I know that you may need some convincing, but I'm sure that I can get some backup on this one, so read on!
Reason #1: You get to create an awesome character
In the D&D worlds, you have the option of choosing the gender, species, and class of who you will be. You could be human, elf, halfling, goblin, half-orc, drow, gnome.. And you could be a fighter, a cleric, a druid, a wizard, a thief, or a barbarian.
My example: I, for one, am a moon elf druid.
Reason #2: The names
Not only do you get to become a totally different person, the possibilities of names that you can come up for them are practically endless.
My example: My character is Lyali Arabianea and my pet lion is Corionar. My sister's name is Eilinar, our insane fighter is Steindall, and our annoying halfling thief is Hillholm.
Reason #3: Fantastical magicky powers
If you become a cleric, a druid, or a wizard, you are guaranteed to get spells (if you play version 3.5). Every day you are granted a number of different level spells. When you level up, the amount of spells that you get increases. So the higher you get, the more spells you can use to kick major booty in combat! And not only do the number of spells increase, the spells themselves get more and more awesome.
My example: Firebolt shoots a bolt of fire at the enemy, Magic Missile shoots a plasma bolt at the enemy, Entangle produces vines that traps anyone in the radius, and Cure Light/Moderate/Heavy Wounds obviously cures wounds. My personal best spell, however, is Burning Hands because it creates a cone of fire expanding from my character. It has a maximize spell on it, causing it to do 3d4 +3 damage.
Reason #4: Worlds
In D&D, there are four worlds: Faerun, Eberron, Gamma Terra, and Athas. The different worlds enable different groups to have different adventures under different circumstances.
My example: My group takes place in the world of Faerun, in the Cormanthor woods.
Reason #5: Creatures
The creatures in this game are quite fantastic and leave us using our imaginations. Creatures such as hook horrors, orcs, dragons, zombies, and much more are available to fight in an encounter, testing your group's skills and giving you stories to talk about for ages.
My example: My group fought bullywogs and a giant frog. My druid, before we switched from 4.0 to 3.5, could transform into a hippogriff and teleport. I started fighting the giant frog and while in my hippogriff form, was eaten by the frog. I was being digested and it wasn't until I was almost at 0 health that we remembered about teleportation as an option to save my life, so I teleported out of the frog.
Reason #6: The Funny Stories
There is no doubt that in the midst of the plot, you will come across something that will either freak you out or just make you laugh because it's so ridiculous.
My example: My Dungeon Master Dusty is funny. I can't really give you an example. He's a legit ninja, though, so that's gotta compensate for it, right?
