Five Really Awesome and Really Indie Bands

Five Really Awesome and Really Indie Bands

By Contributor

Metalhead865 introduces you to some killer new music!—Sparkitors

In most of my posts, I cover bands that actually have a chance at being nationally known. But I've been listening to a ton of local bands lately, and I think they deserve a lot more recognition than they get. Yes, they're mainly rock bands, but they're all really, really awesome. I've linked you to the bands' ReverbNation pages, where you can check out their songs and read a little more about them.

A View From the East Coast (pictured above)
My second cousins Bryan and Stephen are in this pop punk band from Tampa, FL. And they are really, really good. They should be signed to a record label, that's how good they are. They write really fun pop punk love songs and they tour all over the, well, East Coast. If you get the chance to see them live, do it—their Youtube live videos are really awesome.
Song suggestions: "Green Eyes", "Patterns"

I Was Totally Destroying It
One of the members of this Durham, NC powerpop/rock band used to be a construction worker, and one day his job was to break up a concrete sidewalk. As he later told his friends, "I was totally destroying it." THAT'S how this wicked-awesome band got their wicked-awesome name. They've released four albums on Greyday Records and are touring as we speak. I recommend giving them a listen. Or two. Their songs are so freakin' infectious you won't want to stop at just one, and their boy-girl lead singer harmonies, well, totally destroy all competition.
Song suggestions: "Hey Alright!", "Control"

When Forever Comes
I am personal friends with this Clayton, NC band's lead singer Harrison, but even if I wasn't, I'd have to give this band a recommendation. They're pop punk with a little bit of hardcore influence, and they blend the styles really well. And the best part is, they play a ton of shows around the area I live in, so I won't have to wait long to check them out.
Song suggestions: "Maylene", "This Time"

Coastal Vision
These guys played my school's homecoming bonfire and they tore it to shreds. They're from Raleigh, NC, and they're very different from anything you've ever heard—they're a surf-pop band with a ton of punk influence. Expect a lot of shouting, very fast, clean guitar, and riffs that make you think of the Beach Boys.
Song suggestions: "Matador", "I Still Do", "Safety Line"

Airiel Down
You can't put Raleigh band Airiel Down in any category other than just "rock." Every one of their songs, though driven by lead singer Beaux Foy's powerful voice, sounds different—from the almost metal "Hurricane Warning" to the rap rock "Gunslinger" to the pirate anthem "Black Flag", they have something for everyone. And "Hurricane Warning" is even the theme song for the Carolina Hurricanes hockey team—you can't get much more awesome than that.
Song suggestions: "Hurricane Warning", "Gunslinger", "Into The Blue"

Which of these bands is your favorite? Do you have any awesome local bands in your area? Are you totally DYING to know which of the cuties in the pic are Metalhead's second cousins?
