Politician Tells On Teenager

Politician Tells On Teenager

By Emma

18-year-old Emma Sullivan is our favorite Emma, besides ourselves. Why? It all started with this tweet:

"Just made mean comments at gov. brownback and told him he sucked, in person #heblowsalot." (She hadn't actually met the governor; she says the tweet was an inside joke meant for her Youth in Government friends.) You will never guess what Brownback's staff did after seeing the tweet!
THEY CALLED SULLIVAN'S PRINCIPAL AND TATTLED!

Yep, they called up her principal to complain about the tweet, like a bunch of whiny babies. And instead of telling them to take a hike, the principal reprimanded Sullivan and asked her to write a letter of apology to Brownback. She initially agreed, but then changed her mind, saying, "I wasn't sorry for what I said because I meant it."

Well, the joke's on Brownback, because everyone's talking about his ridiculous response, and Ms. Sullivan now has around 11,000 followers on Twitter—almost four times the number the jerky governor has.

We admire Sullivan's cajones. When we were 18 and the principal called us to his office, we melted into a weepy puddle of apologies and acquiescence. We never would have dared to defy him, much less make rude remarks about governors! We admire Sullivan's bravery (and her butterscotch-colored hair).

Do you think Sullivan was right not to apologize?
