Adriana Lima is a Victoria's Secret Angel, which means she gets to parade down a runway in her undies with huge wings strapped to her back. She's also the mother of a two-year-old, Valentina (we love that name!). So how does she get ready for runway shows? By cutting weight like an Olympic wrestler, of course!
In an interview with The Telegraph, she said she works out twice a day in the weeks before a show. She also drinks a gallon of water per day. Nine days before a show, she stops eating solid food entirely, and subsists on air and protein shakes. Twelve hours before game day, she STOPS DRINKING ALL LIQUIDS! "No liquids at all so you dry out, sometimes you can lose up to eight pounds just from that," she told the Telegraph.
The stylist for the show says, "It's like [the models are] training for a marathon. . .It's the same as if you were a long-distance runner. They are athletes in this environment—it's harder to be a Victoria's Secret model because no one can just chuck an outfit on you, and hide your lumps and bumps."
A couple of thoughts.
1) It's not like they're training for a marathon. It's like they're starving themselves to get ready for a ludicrously over-the-top paean to body image disorders.
2) It's not the same as if they were long-distance runners. For one thing, on their all-liquid diets, they wouldn't have the energy to jog down the block. For another thing, long-distance runners generally drink water.
3) Preeeeeetty sure it's harder to be an Olympian than it is to put one foot in front of the other while wearing a sparkly bra. And is this stylist aware that Olympians aren't wearing outfits, but uniforms? And that the those uniforms are utilitarian garments built to make athletes aerodynamic and comfortable—not to hide their "lumps and bumps"?
Do you agree that Adriana's regimen is ridiculous and dangerous? And that this stylist is a major league dunderhead?
