Oh no! It's Halloween and you don't have a costume! You spent weeks planning an elaborate mermaid costume made out of real mermaids, but you couldn't find a seashell bra. Or maybe you're already at the party, and for some reason still don't have an outfit? Try these quick and easy costumes made out of simple household items. We guarantee that you will be utterly devastated.
Er, devastating. Yeah.
Ball of twine
Get a length of rope, or a really, really long length of string. Wrap it around your body from hip to armpit, leaving your arms free, until it forms a ball. Unwrap it and go to the bathroom. Re-do. This costume is great for flirting with people dressed as cats. "Heyyy, wanna roll me down the stairs?"
Rotting Jack-o'-lantern
Find a big orange garbage bag. Draw a pumpkin face on it with a Sharpie. Cut leg holes in it and tie the opening (LOOSELY) around your neck. Now you look like a saggy, wrinkled pumpkin!
Bonus alternate costume: If you can't find an orange bag, put leg holes in an ordinary garbage bag and go as a garbage bag.
Bedsheet ghost
"So simple! So retro! So ironic!" all your elaborately-costumed friends will squeal with jealousy. You will say nothing, but smile as you steal all the candy and hide it under your sheet.
Half-past six
Dress all in black. Make cardboard arrows and tape them to your arms, one higher up than the other, to be the hands of a clock. Make soft ticking noises and stand perfectly still with both arms pointing downwards all night long. If you raise your arms to eat or drink, your costume will be ruined and you'll just be a fool with cardboard arrows on your hands.
Robot
Put a saucepan on your head and wrap yourself from head to foot in tinfoil.
Old Spice Guy
Wrap a towel around your waist. You're done. "Look at your costume. Now back at mine. Now back at your costume. Now back at mine. Sadly, it isn't mine."
Masked, winged, or caped thing
Put on regular clothes. Now put on a mask, wings or a cape. It's a costume!
