A Mankler's Top Five Favorite Movies EVER

A Mankler's Top Five Favorite Movies EVER

Music-lover Metalhead865 shares his best-loved flicks—and only ONE of them has a guitar in it! We're SHOCKED!—Sparkitors

I love a good movie, even if it is just a 2-hour waste of time. This list will give you a glimpse into the insanely convoluted mind of Metalhead865!

5. That Darn Cat: Suspense. Chase scenes. Guns. Explosions. And it's really freaking funny, too. In this '60s Disney comedy-suspense film, an FBI agent must track a cat to find two thieves holding a woman hostage. When the cat's teenage owner and her boyfriend get involved by accident, things get really messed up. Full of slapstick humor and Pink Panther-style jazz music, this is one of the most underappreciated films I've ever seen. If you're anything like me, the scene at the drive-in will have you gasping for air by the end.

4. Despicable Me: I love animated movies, and Despicable Me is by far my favorite. When supervillain Gru plans to steal the moon, he doesn't count on having to take care of three little girls while trying to do so. Of course, this movie would be nothing without the little yellow Minions—they steal the show with their slapstick antics and hilarious gibberish language. Steve Carell, Russell Brand, and Miranda Cosgrove pull off some amazing voice jobs as well.

3. The Italian Job: Not the 1969 one, the 2003 one. When you steal three million dollars, and one of your team members betrays you, you don't get mad. You get even. Charlie Croker and a crack team of master thieves must steal back a TON of gold from their former friend (who ruined their last heist and killed their mentor), and boy, do they do it in style. With Mini Coopers. And bombs. And subways. And the biggest freakin' traffic jam you ever saw. Plus Mos Def, Jason Statham, and Seth Green provide some hilarious comic relief.

2. Ferris Bueller's Day Off: Hooray for SparkNotes Movie Club. If it wasn't for them, I would never have seen this piece of comic genius. When high schooler Ferris decides to skip school one beautiful day, he, his girlfriend, and his best friend do all kinds of insane things around downtown Chicago while his older sister and the school principal both try to catch him. Probably the most ironic part is young Charlie Sheen playing the drug addict. The Ferrari, Ferris singing "Twist and Shout", and the art museum montage are all hugely iconic, and Ferris's constant commentary to the audience is just perfect. "Here's where Cameron goes berserk!"

1. Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World: The last thing I did before starting my sophomore year was to go out and see Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World alone. It ended up being one of the best decisions I ever made. Action! Romance! Drama! Music! Video game references! This movie has it all, and more. The plot?/ 22-year-old Scott Pilgrim plays bass for indie rock band Sex Bob-Omb. When he meets the girl of his dreams (literally), he must defeat her seven evil exes to be with her—including a super-hot movie star, a vegan rock bassist, and twins ("She dated twins? At the same time?"). Besides having some extremely awesome special effects (like comic-book style POW!s, BOOM!s, and the occasional SMACK!), this is an endlessly quotable movie. From Scott's "We're here to make you think about death and get sad and stuff" to the highly ineffectual quips of the villains ("Tell it to the cleaning lady on Monday. Because you'll be dust by Monday. Because you'll be pulverized in two seconds. The cleaning lady? She cleans up dust. She dusts." "So...why Monday?" "It's Friday...she gets the weekend off, right?"), you could literally spend days quoting this movie to your friends until they start denying they know you. If you have a brain in your head, you will watch this movie. And you will most definitely love it.

We love 3 out of the 5 movies on this list—and we haven't seen the other 2. What are your top 5 favorite films?
