My Crush Is... a Starship Character

My Crush Is... a Starship Character

I’m a girl of obsessions. I know this and I’ve come to embrace it. Sure, others might find it a bit creepy that I know all the words to every AVPM and AVPS song, but to me it’s something to be proud of.

One of my biggest and strongest obsessions (I prefer to call it love) is for the one, the only, Team StarKid. Now before you start yelling at your computer screens that we’ve already exhausted the list of StarKid characters that make our hearts beat fast and our breath come quick (which is every single one of them), let me assure you that I’ve checked, and there is not yet a post written about the newest wonder to come out of the Starkid musical-making-magic-machine: Starship.

I understand that there may be a few who haven’t seen Starship.  Do you have any idea what your missing? Let me fill you in with a little list about the most swoon-worthy space-faring Starship characters:

WARNING: possible Starship plot spoilers ahead. But not very big ones.

1. Bug. Who can’t love Joey Richter? Seriously, he’s got that awkward yet endearing lopsided jaw and a voice that melts my heart into a puddle of mush on the floor. As for Bug, well... he’s a bug. An orange, exoskeletony bug. But he’s also sweet, kind, and brave enough to try and make his dreams come true. It’s a good thing he gets a human body, otherwise we’d all feel kind of awkward being in love with him.

2. Junior. Who doesn’t love a sexy evil guy? And what better person to play a sexy evil guy than the one and only Brian Holden? Junior’s the guy you hate to love, but you can’t help it, and his reprise of "Kick It Up A Notch" makes my heart skip a beat. For you AVPS fans, let me just say one thing: Lupin CAN sing! (But Hermione still can’t draw.)

3. Commander Up. There’s been a lot of speculation over how old Commander Up really is, the conclusion being that he’s probably far too old for most of us. And you know what? I actually don’t care. It’s Joe Walker. In a tight shirt. With a mustache. Dancing. He might have gone soft, but his big heart is just what makes him all the more lovable, especially if you’re sitting on his lap.

4. Tootsie Noodles. On Farmplanet your first name is what you do, and your last name is what you love, and who wouldn’t love Tootsie Noodles? Sure, he’s not the smartest apple on the tree, and he might have once dated a stack of hay that was his cousin, but he’s got enough love to heal the world and can look past silly trivialities, like being a murderous human-hating robot, to see the inner beauty. Plus Dylan Saunders has possibly the most incredible voice in the world.

5. Krayonder. So I’ll admit it. I’m head over heels for Joe Moses. And while his part in Starship isn’t as big as in AVPM/S (you can’t get much bigger than Severus Snape), he still manages to infuse every scene he’s in with his, and the character’s, undeniable cuteness and energy. Go back and watch this song again but pay attention to Joe rather than the other Joe, and you’ll get what I mean.

Now I leave you with a question, that I myself am finding very hard to answer: if your first name is what you do and your last name is what you love (those words are always spoken with a southern accent in my head) then what should I call you?

Did this post make anyone else want to go watch Starship RIGHT NOW?!
