Thank You, Steve Jobs

Thank You, Steve Jobs

By Lauren Passell

Yesterday we learned about the death of Steve Jobs, inventor and Apple CEO (and former chief exec of Pixar). Jobs, who was 56, succumbed to pancreatic cancer, which he had been fighting since 2004.

Dear Mr. Jobs,

We'd like to thank you for your years of creative genius, for inspiring us to follow our bliss.

For turning us all into gadget nerds. For making it normal to be a gadget nerd. For making it cool to be a nerd.

Thank you for making technology simple and beautiful. We wear our iPods like jewelry because of you. We'll never listen to music the same way again. CD whaaaaat?

You changed how we ingest media. People weren't sure about the iPad (and laughed about the name). They didn't know what you knew, that it wouldn't just work, it would change the world. You were always a step ahead of us, realizing what we wanted before we even knew we wanted it. Thank you for writing our future and history in technology.

Thank you for making our lives easier.

Thank you for the Apple I (1976) the Apple II (1977) the Lisa (1983) the Macintosh (1984) the NeXT (1989) the iMac (1998) the iPod (2001) the iTunes store (2003) the iPhone (2007) and the iPad (2010).

Today the world mourns you.
