To all you musically-inclined Sparklers out there: July_Sparkling is in dire need of your advice! Get on this!—Sparkitors
Well, fellow Sparklers, my senior year is finally upon me.
THIS IS TERRIFYING, for one reason: at the end of the year, my friends are leaving me.
We're a pretty unique group, with a ton of history, considering most of us have only known each other for four years. The problem is that we're all going to different colleges in different states. We also go to a boarding school, so it's not like every Christmas we'll run into each other for the holidays. Some of us live East, West, Northern England, yada-yada. After the last day of school, we have pretty much wrapped up our lives together, minus Facebook and texting.
I want to give something special to my friends before we leave, so I decided to take the all of the videos and pictures of us from the past 4 years and make a big montage as a going away/remember me present. BUT I NEED YOUR HELP. As much as I love music, I can't seem to find the perfect song to apply to the video. I'm looking for suggestions that fall under this criteria:
1. I prefer it to have a slow tempo. This is supposed to be a tearjerker, so I want the full effect. It's kind of hard to cry when you have Metro Station's Shake It playing in the background. However, If there's an OHMYGOSHAMAZINGSONGTHATSJUSTPERFECTFORYOU song of a rather fast tempo, I'll take a look at it!
2. A long song. There has to be enough airtime to squeeze in four years of our life. About four minutes would be a good minimum, but I am open to slightly less.
3. I prefer it not to be cliche. Please don't recommend "The Graduation Song." It's not that I have anything against Vitamin C, We've just heard them play at Every. Single. Graduation. Since. We. Were. Twelve.
4. Somewhat unknown. I like to call our taste in music "Halfway Hipster." We like the "Oh, you've never heard of them artists" but we lack the drive to go find them. So instead, we find semi-known artists and listen to their least-known song. As a general rule, we take the band's most popular album and skip four or five tracks. For example, Secondhand Serenade. Remember way back when they went big with Fall For You? Well, we really like Goodbye.
5. Possibly of your own creation! If you have a band or you think you have a pretty spectacular cover of something, please give me a link to the song! I am crazy about covers, so give it a shot!
6. I'd like it to be somewhat related to goodbyes. This is a hard one, so follow it loosely. What I mean is, I don't want to put on Rascal Flatt's "Here Comes Goodbye " (because I'm not in the middle of a breakup; it just wouldn't fit), but I would like it to have some reference to a change or goodbye occurring. I tried Coldplay's Fix You but it just didn't have the quality of separation that I needed.
7. Clean! If there are swear words every ten seconds, it might get in the way of the tear-jerking effect I'm going for. However, if something is uttered somewhere in the bridge, then hey, we'll let it slide on account of emotion.
8. Hopefully includes instrumentals. This is for bonus points. Depending on how stealthy I can be, I had planned on inserting some words about how much we love each other to make it extra gushy, so an instrumental would be a good time to implement this. However, if the song you were thinking of doesn't have an incredibly long acoustic solo with tons of electric riffs, that's totally fine.
Please write your suggestions in the comments. Post a link or just write a song and band! Thank you for helping me make my friends (guys and girls) break dams with their tears. OK, ok, I might cry a little, too.
XOXOXO
July_Sparkling
If you've got the perfect song in mind, post it below! We think this one is beautiful, but it doesn't fit with #6—plus, it doesn't have any WORDS. Oh well.
