The Top 7 Reasons to Go to Engineering Camp

monicarima, will you dedicate one of your Android apps to us? Please? —Sparkitors

I have just returned from a three-week-long residential camp, and I felt like everyone at SparkLife would appreciate knowing why I had such a good time. I’d like to dedicate this post to my family from MITE 2011. Here's why I think you, too, should go to engineering camp:

1. You will make some of the best friends you will ever have because everyone here has interests similar to yours! It’s very refreshing to be around people who love what you love.

2. You can be prouder than you’ve ever been before of being a nerd; everyone here is with you on that one. Nerd power!

3. When you come home, you can tell people about all awesome things you learned. For instance, I made apps for Android phones… admit it, you want to bask in some of that glory.

4. You get to tell people all about the cool friends you made (and watch them be jealous of your Social Skillz). At camp you learn how to use what little free time you get to hang out with the people. Also, you'll learn that icebreaker games are actually fun (no matter how much you complain about them)!

5. PARTIES! Our camp was residential, and we’d have ridiculous parties almost every night in the dorms. We learned all the dance moves that people back home are still trying to figure out! I can now educate you on how to perform the Douglas. No big deal. We even had a toga party… togas made of bed sheets anyone?

6. Everyone is super-nice. There’s something about summer camp that makes everyone so much nicer. The boys at my camp were very chivalrous, always holding open doors and giving the ladies seats on the bus. Being a lady, I can assure you that it was AWESOME, and it spoiled me a bit—I’m still having trouble remembering to open my own doors.

7. Did I mention the friends? Doing a quick calculation, if we are spending every day from 7 to 10 with the same people for three weeks, that’s about two weeks of 24 hour days together… you learn to love one another, which makes it all the more difficult when it comes time to say goodbye.

Are you DYING to go to engineering camp now?
