Colleen, we're pretty sure that Dan is going to frame this post and hang it above his jello mold collection.—Sparkitors
So, here's the thing. In my day to day life, I'm surrounded by idiots.
Maybe that's mean, but I think it's honest. The people I am forced to interact with just don't get it. They don't understand witty humor, and if they do, they don't know how to respond to it. They don't use sarcasm, or irony, and they don't play with Legos and such. They are simply too cool, in their own minds. But I'm not like that. You see, I'm one of Dan's people. I sit at my computer for every Thursday night movie club, regardless if I've never seen the movie or I think it's awful. I follow him on Twitter, friends with him on Facebook, frequently found myself on Laserfarm and always always read his SparkLife articles. And I think that he is the coolest person ever.
......Yeah, not really. But he's pretty high up there.
I have no idea how I stumbled across Blogging Twilight, so if you ask I'll just ignore you and pretend I didn't hear the question. But he
was already well into New Moon when I started reading it, and I spent a good 2 hours alone in my room cracking up at nearly everything I read. I favorited the page and checked back every week. I friended Dan on Facebook, and ever since I've liked his Facebook wall more than my own.
Dan is awesome. Really, he is. He's a brilliant comical genius and he uses wit in a way that few can. To me, he's like a celebrity. I always feel super cool and special when he responds to a comment I left, or likes my wall post or something. And I like all of the other members of House of Bergstein as well. It's very fresh, considering the usual Facebook status or tweet is something so boring and pointless I feel overwhelmed with secondhand embarrassment. Everyone is very clever and fun and we all relate, even though the only common ground we really have is that we all like Dan. But that's enough. There are names that I recognize instantly on his page, and people have come to recognize me too. It's weird, but it's fun. I feel like I fit in with all of it. We all poke fun and tease and Dan always throws in something completely unexpected and hilarious and it usually makes my day.
Dan makes me smile when I'm sitting all alone at my computer after a really crummy day, when my closest friends can't even accomplish that much. I challenge myself to make other people laugh like his posts make me laugh. In some ways I want to be just like Dan. In other ways I want to never ever be like Dan, particularly the beard, but that's for another day.
Happy Dan Bergstein Week!
You should really re-think the beard, Colleen. Go big or go home. Tell us all the reasons YOU love Dan—it's your last chance, becaue Dan Week ends today!
