The Pros and Cons of Dating a Metalhead

AngelaV, date an indie snob next! We need another guide. –Sparkitors

Last semester I had one of the more unexpected experiences of my life. Surprising all of my friends, I started dating one of my best guy friends, who is an insane metalhead. Having not only dated him, but spent plenty of time hanging around his metalhead friends, I felt compelled to write this informative guide, so that others may learn from my wisdom. Here are the best and worst parts of dating a metalhead:

Pro: He'll introduce you to new music!

Though you may not think you're into metal, there is a metal subgenre for everyone! There's black metal, industrial metal, power metal, metalcore, and many more. My personal favorite is progressive metal. I have yet to meet someone who has heard Dream Theater and didn't like it.

Con: Better get used to metal.

If you're one of those unfortunates who doesn't like any genre of metal, that probably won't make a difference to your SO. Metalheads are quite snobby when it comes to their music, and don't allow anything else to be played on their car radios. If you're dating a metalhead who tolerates your Taylor Swift obsession, it just might be love.

Pro: Metalheads are tons of fun.

My metalhead and his friend were hilarious, ridiculously fun people to be around, totally up for midnight trips to McDonald's, going to the carnival, anything that involves spontaneous good times.

Con: Your relationship will be lacking on the romance.

While some metalheads may love to take their girlfriends somewhere nice, the ones I know aren't financially stable enough to do so. Or perhaps they're too busy listening to metal. Either way, don't expect him to buy you flowers for every date.

Pro: Beautiful hair.

The metalheads I've met have hair far nicer than my own. It's not fair when boys can do that...

Con: ...Beautiful long hair.

This is either a pro or a con, depending on how you see things.

Pro: Not ashamed of dating you.

When I dated a metalhead, he bragged about me to his friends till they were completely sick of him. I'm not a 10 or anything, he just felt lucky to have me. A lot of his metalhead friends acted the same way about their girlfriends.

Con: He will still probably choose music over you.

You must accept this from the beginning.

Ever had an SO who rated their obsession over you?
