Twilight: Ignoring the Menstrual Cycle

Twilight: Ignoring the Menstrual Cycle

This open letter to Stephenie Meyer—by Mollyisa*—is short, sweet, and to the point. Period. —Sparkitors

Dear Mrs. Meyer:

While your stories are riveting in many ways (at least to young girls and goldfish, who find most things riveting since their memory lasts approximately 3 seconds), I wanted to inform you that I found some oversights in your work.

Did you believe that as a literary goddess to the aforementioned, you inherited the right to blatantly ignore menstruation when you felt like it? Or were we supposed to be led to believe that Bella is so magical that she could have a child and never ever have her period like the rest of us cramping, sweating, aching females?

And why would the Cullens go to high school—where at least one female has to be on her period at a time—especially considering Jasper has such an issue with control? Or do the vampires have a different reaction to the shedding of the uterine lining [Read: BLOOD]?

I am not a scientist, nor am I at all capable of your genius, S. Meyer. However, I am confused about the mechanics of your work, and wonder how Edward could date Bella for months and not have had to run away at least a couple of times… or is this when he would go hunting?

Please excuse any misunderstandings on my part. I mean no offense, but my mind has struggled with this topic for months:

HOW CAN YOU IGNORE MENSTRUATION???

What do you think about the menstruation issue? Was S. Meyer right to ignore it?
