My Camp Electric Journal!

My Camp Electric Journal!

By Contributor

Metalhead865 is back with an update on his about-to-be-awesome summer!—Sparkitors

Hey, it's me, the NBK with a guitar. A couple of weeks ago, I went to a Christian music camp and had an awesome time...and this (mini)series is what I wrote down in my notebook in my spare time, addressed to you, my loyal readers. Without further ado, here's the first installment of my Camp Electric journal.

T-minus 2 days (July 15, 2011)

4:57 PM (Eastern)
Location: Home, somewhere in North Carolina
Mood: Super-pumped

My guitar is packed.
My suitcase is packed.
My music is packed.

I am so PSYCHED.

At this moment, I'm chilling out in my room, listening to some Family Force 5 to loosen up after today's frantic bag-packing session. I've been looking forward to this week since the end of last July. The reason why? Camp Electric 2011 starts in two days.

"But what," you ask, "is this Camp Electric you speak of?" Well, for those of you who have seen that Disney Channel movie "Camp Rock" (the one with Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas), it's just like that, only it happens at Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville. And, thankfully, no Jonas Brothers.

For those who haven't seen it (and I applaud you on your good judgment!), Camp Electric is a Christian music camp in Nashville. It's five days long, no parents, only a few rules, and music classes taught by some of the coolest musicians in rock and pop today. Last year, I ended up with Jeremy Camp's guitarist Randy; Justin York, who taught us how to play a song by his brother's band Paramore; and most awesomely, Pillar's guitarist Noah Henson, who—no joke—went to my high school and knows my guitar instructor here in NC. This year has the potential to be even more awesome.

Plus, there are concerts every night; last year, Pillar, Disciple, TobyMac (who also hosts the whole event), and the amazing Family Force 5 all threw down in the concert hall. This year, Thousand Foot Krutch and Kutless (who are both supposed to be really good live bands) are making their CE debuts, and I've been told Disciple's gonna come back.

But the most important part about CE (next to all the Jesus moments, of course) is the other campers. Last year I made a million friends (weird, since there's only 500 people per week!), and I hope to make a million more this year. The sing-alongs, music discussions, and games of Ninja are some of the most fun things I've ever done.

And I, Metalhead865, am finally packed (after a hectic quest to find some batteries for my video camera) and ready to rock once again. Remember what I said in that one NBK post about summer being boring? Well, between this, Canada, and the viewing of Cars 2 with two of my best friends, that opinion is changing.

I'm gonna go throw some more picks in my guitar case and call it a night. See ya tomorrow!

We can't wait to find out what Metalhead thinks of camp this year—will it live up to his high expectations?
