If you're like me, a weekend from those loving-in-your-face-parents is a gift from God. Thankfully that has occurred recently and I spent the weekend attempting to figure out what to do with myself. So here is list for all and any of you that come across this circumstance, along with a few DOs and DON'Ts.
DON'T post on your Facebook about your plans: Turns out extended family members stalk a bit more than a 16-year-old would expect. It doesn't even have to be a status like, "i'm going to throw a huge illegal party". Nope, I got tattled on for a Facebook status saying, "parents are gone, woohoo! cookies and fruit snacks for breakfast." Sure enough my mom called me within 30 minutes and told me to eat a better breakfast, and I know for a fact she or my dad are not my Facebook friends. Lame.
DO dance around your house like a maniac: We all know we do this when no one is looking. Throw on your favorite jams, maybe even some Jo Bros or NYSYNC.
DO watch all of your guilty pleasure TV shows: I know secretly, deep down, a few of you are in love with iCarly and The Kardashians. Flip on the TV, grab some popcorn and enjoy yourself, free from embarrassment.
DO act like Emma Stone in Easy A: Find one of those singing cards and sing along with it in your highest voice while opening and closing the card. Best Choice: "Pocket Full of Sunshine."
DON'T have a party with over 6 people: Neighbors are just as nosy as relatives on Facebook, so a big party isn't exactly a good idea, especially since the po po can put some stuff on your permanent record. Plus you have to clean up.
DO find a random instrument and strum it like you knew how to play: This one goes to all of those who aren't musically inclined and wish they were. Find that little guitar in your basement and strum away while you cry or laugh about how you feel at the moment. Be just like Emma Roberts in her cheesy show Unfabulous on Nick. Orrr... if you are like me and you can play piano, guitar, and banjo. write all the music you were too scared to sing with people around.
DO act like Ferris Bueller: After all, it is your day off. Go find your dads Ferrari and take it for a spin. This may not be a good idea if you haven't taken drivers ed, but hey, your risk.
DON'T do chores: You're on vacation! Relax and take a break from all that stuff.
Hope everybody benefited from this list, I know I did, but hey I'm new here.
What do you do when your parents are out of town?
