Surviving an All-Nighter, the Jewish Way

supertoasty613's night of atonement may or may not have involved donuts. But it DEFINITELY involved coffee. –Sparkitors

On the tenth day of June, we Jews celebrated the holiday of Shavuot, on which one of the customs is to stay up learning the first night, thereby atoning for the fact that, on the actual day, the original Jews slept in (cue those anchovy dudes from Spongebob). Being that this is my second year observing Shavuot, I'm gonna give you some tips for surviving the night:

1. Drink. No! Not alcohol! Caffeine! CAFFEINE! CAFF- OK, maybe I shouldn't have had seven cups of coffee before deciding to write this article.

2. Stay on your feet. Being on your toes (no pun intended) keeps your blood flowing, ensuring that your brain stays active. Active brain = active body = no tiredness! In theory, at least. (It's harder to faceplant into a deep sleep if you're running around in circles instead.)

3. Chat it up. As long as you keep talking with people and participating in the lectures, there is no way you can get bored. Even in a 45-minute lecture. Yes, I'm being serious.

4. Don't eat a lot. Eating makes you satiated, which makes you get tired faster. So 46 Entenmann's donuts are definitely a no-no. Especially if they're MY 46 Entenmann's donuts. *Suspicious glare*

5. Don't think about sleep. Seriously, don't think abou... don't thi... zzzzzzzzzzz....

Did anybody else stay up for Shavuot?
