You Know You're From El Paso When...

We dig all the bilingual stuff in El Paso, but we would totally try to avoid Albertson's at all costs...at least on a bad hair day, ReannaTheElf! —Sparkitors

You know you're from El Paso, Texas when:

  • Wearing a "I think UTEP is suboptimal" shirt is hazardous to your health. Saying it, however, gets you nods in agreement.
  • You've been to Chico's Tacos. Multiple times. In fact, either you or someone you know has Chico's as a staple of your/his diet.
  • You can switch talking between Spanish and English in one sentence without missing a beat.
  • You see all your childhood friends, your first employer, first love, and about 143 neighbors and "good friends" you've known forever at your local Albertson's. Avoidance is futile.
  • You go to the Albertson's on the other side of town and don't recognize anyone.
  • It's weird to see white guys on road crews.
  • You know white people who only speak Spanish and Mexican people who only speak English.
  • You have at least five friends with family in the military.
  • The first thing you ask someone after their name is what side of town they live on. If you live on the West side and they live in Northeast, you give up on ever seeing each other more than once a month.
  • You can buy Mexican candy at the doctor's office.
  • You know that people live "on" the West and East sides, but "in" Northeast and Central.
  • You are made of Mexican/American/military awesomeness!

If you lived in a bilingual town, which two languages would you want to speak?
