This show was awesome way before Twilight-mania struck, and it's still awesome even after Stephenie Meyers ruined vampires for everyone. Need more convincing? Here's my countdown of why Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a must-watch series:
7. Angel: He's the original Edward Cullen, only so much sexier and better at the brooding stare (it’s like his brow bone was made for it!)
6. Great Villains: Whether you're talking about the fashion-obsessed Glory, a dark and terrifying Willow, or, best of all, the goofy, lovable Spike/Drusilla duo, the villains on “Buffy” were both endearing and terrifying. And who could forget Angelus, revealed in one of the most shocking twists in the show’s history?
5. Bold Fashion Statements: Yes, the style on the show may be completely terrible (I’m pretty sure Buffy wore a sports bra to school one time…and can you say lime green cords?), but the tragic wardrobes remind us of how fortunate we are today!
4. Guts: Not many television shows would dare to do an episode almost completely in silence, or to kill off the title character, now would they?
3. Great acting: If you've seen the opening sequence of “The Body” (Season 5) you know exactly what I’m talking about. Sarah Michelle Gellar deserved an Emmy for that scene alone.
2. Great character development: Watching the entire series in succession shows you how each character has evolved over the 7 years the show was on air. And I’m not just talking about Willow becoming a lesbian—even Buffy grows up and matures as the show progresses.
1. Heart: If there was one thing that “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” had in abundance, it was heart. I've cried during almost every season finale. While the show may be set in a fantasy world of vampires, the issues and lessons that the characters are faced with are extremely applicable even today. When a television show achieves that, you know that you have struck gold. And that’s why, even 8 years later, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” will rock your socks off. Now go watch it for free on Netflix!
Any other Buffy fans out there? We've gotta admit, Angel and Spike were pretty fly.
