You Know You're From Arizona When...

SomedayI'llBePartOfYourWorld has got culinary pride, the ability to withstand insane heat, and (this is just wishful thinking) a bolo tie for every day of the year. —Sparkitors

In ecm8's recent article on life in Houston, she claimed that her city’s Mexican food is unlike anywhere else. I've come to the interwebs to defend my state’s Mexican food, and to tell you a bit about life in the desert. This is how you know you’re from Arizona:

  • You know how amazing our Mexican food is, and you know where to find the best Mexican restaurants.
  • You know what an Eegees is…and that they’re amazing (especially if you live in Casa Grande or Tucson).
  • If you live in Phoenix you’ve been to Tucson; if you live in Tucson, you’ve been to Phoenix. If you live ANYWHERE, you’ve been to the Grand Canyon.
  • Snowbirds annoy you even more than coyotes, rattlesnakes, owls, and javelinas. All of which you've spotted.
  • You are proud of the Saguaro cactus (it only grows in Arizona, Mexico, and a bit in California). This is in spite of the fact that you’ve been poked by a cactus…or fallen into one. :/
  • You have a fear of driving in the rain. Nevertheless, you love monsoons.
  • You have a strong opinion on SB 1070.
  • You’ve seen petroglyphs, likely on a class trip.
  • In summer it’s totally normal for it to be over 105 degrees.
  • You discuss your plans to move away when it’s hot…and when it’s cold (which is classified as anything under 55 degrees).
  • You feel a sense of pride about Arizona Iced Tea.
  • Daylight Savings Time is a foreign and confusing concept to you.
  • You know how beautiful our sunsets are.
  • “It’s a dry heat.”
  • You are ashamed of Arizona’s involvement in the Twilight saga.

Who else is from Arizona? How many bolo ties do you own?
