mysticjadeshoe attempts to break down this recent Twilight defense, brick by sparkly brick. –Sparkitors
Stop me if I get confusing: after reading the mythbusting attempt of a fellow Sparkler—namely, thispaperdream, who recently attempted to defend Twilight—I feel that I must reassemble the Twilight "myths" that she busted. In other words: I'm gonna prove her wrong.
Busted myth #1: Edward's not a creepy pedophile, he's just an ancient vampire. Totally fine! Hate to burst your bubble, but Bella, his girlfriend, is not a vampire. She's a normal, teenaged human who sees things from a human's perspective. A brain-dead human, but that's another story.
Busted myth #2: Bella's lame, but that's okay: more time to pay attention to the vampires. I don't care how many fantastical sparkly fairies you put in a story, a strong main character is still extremely important. I hate to bring up Harry Potter, but oops. Harry is a main character who starts out weak, but grows and develops as the series goes on, eventually becoming the boy who killed the Dark Lord. Bella is about as dynamic and mature as an episode of Rugrats.
Busted myth #3: Jacob and Renesmee's relationship isn't creepy, because it exists in a mythological setting. Come on. I read that chapter. Jacob's description of Renesmee and his "imprinting" on her was far from platonic. He even makes a pet name for her, guys! Just try to convince me that's normal. In any society, mythological or not, it's creepy for a 16-year-old to hit on a newborn baby.
I'm still not saying everyone should hate on Twilight. I'm just arguing against these arguments.
Now that I've got that out of the way, can we just leave Twilight alone now? ...Please?
Sorry, mystic, but it's no fun leaving anything alone. Talk it out in the comments!
