Confidence Pants Stories: Keeping in Touch

okaydokay:), we love your determination! —Sparkitors

It all started at the Valentine's Day Dance. I met him through a friend who hung out with all night, and that's when I fell for him.

Let's just call him James. We laughed and talked and discovered we were both Beiber-haters. At one point, he called dibs on me for the next slow dance. He's pretty good-looking and really sweet so of course I got butterflies and blushed as I murmured a shy okay. When we slow-danced, he told me that he was really bummed out that he was moving. I gave my sympathy and asked when he was moving. And what did he say in reply? He said he was moving the next day. I was screaming in my head out of disbelief and frustration.

After the dance was over, he said his goodbyes to all of his friends. I felt really awkward standing there while I watched the teary-eyed goodbyes of people I didn't know very well. The scared little voice in my head told me to just leave and say goodnight to my own friends (who I had neglected that night). But you know what I did? I ignored that voice and pulled on my invisible confidence pants. I walked right up to him and asked him for his number. I was so proud of myself, until he told me didn't have a phone. Ouch. Embarrassed,  I said a quiet bye and went home.

I didn't hide in my room full of embarrassment, though. No, I got onto Facebook and wrote on his wall, "It was awesome to get to know you James! Promise you'll keep in touch, will you?" And you know what he did? He commented and said that he'd get all his old friends' numbers once he got a phone! I almost screamed, but didn't, otherwise my sisters would have run over to my computer and badgered me.

I still keep in touch, and we have had a poke war on Facebook since then (I'm winning). I've limited my stalking to once a week, and it's great.

What would you do if it looked like things weren't going to work out for you and your crush?
