Faye's Quest for a Prom Date: Breaking an Entering

By Contributor

Faye, we think Taylor is a dolt. And Penn is dreamy. But please don't rob a bank. —Sparkitors

Somebody needs to write a handbook on talking to boys and it should be called, Boys for Dummies (And Smart Girls Who May or May Not be Named Faye). Since such a wonderful book does not exist, I suppose I’m going to have to share the vast knowledge I’ve gained on the subject this past week in my quest for a Prom date. (11 weeks until Prom, WOO!)

Chapter One: Talking to a boy.

So I took a lovely Sparkler’s advice and decided to attempt Facebook chat again, and I actually had conversations with Taylor and Penn! (I use the term “conversations” loosely.)

Taylor
Me: Hey, you applied to (Insert name of that college that I know Taylor and I both applied to because he mentioned it before) right?

Taylor: Yeah. (Shocker.)

After that, I asked him about some financial aid thing that I missed the deadline for and was freaking out about, and he said I shouldn’t worry because he just sent his stuff in too. I thanked him and that was it. I think it’s pretty obvious from the deep conversation that we had that we have a lot in common and could quite possibly be soul mates. (So…much…sarcasm.)

Penn
I started the chat with Penn pretty much the same way I did with Taylor, only asking about the work I missed in Physics instead of something college related. (Oh yeah, mixing it up.) He told me what we did, and I thanked him. End of conversation, right?

WRONG! *Gasps of amazement at this shocking turn of events*

Me: Okay, thanks

Penn: No problem, Faye. (Squee, he typed my name!) You were doing the show, right? (Referring to the fact that I’m in the Spring Musical and I wasn’t in class because the matinee show was during the school day.)

Voice inside my head: OH SNAP! Did he just extend this conversation to include something not completely school related? Quick, come up with a witty response!

Me:
Umm, yeah!

Voice: -_-

Anyway, we wound up talking about the show a bit more, and I asked him if he was coming to see it. (That’s flirting, right?) He said he definitely wanted to see it, and would try to come next weekend, which I mentioned is my birthday. I told him I’m turning 18 (exciting right?) to which he responded:

Penn: You should break something! You know, do something illegal before you’re 18 so you can’t be charged as an adult.

Me: *Swoon*

We then went back and forth deciding what illegal act I should commit before next weekend. We narrowed it down to either robbing a bank or breaking and entering. He signed off after that, so I guess I’ll never know…unless I Facebook chat him again, I suppose. Should I do it? Or is two chat messages in one week too many?

Chapter Two: Actually talking to a boy.

Okay, so I didn’t actually talk to Taylor or Penn this week, face to face and all, but I do have a Penn related story:

I was waiting for the Math League bus (no judgment) after school when the track team runs by. Penn runs past us, with bright blue gym shorts and a red hoodie, totally mismatched and completely adorable. The Math League guys said hi to him, and I figured that “hi” was from all of us, so I just smiled at him. He said hi back, to the collective group I guess, and ran on. Adorably.

So I guess my goal for next week is actually talking to Penn and Taylor. Chad (remember him?) made me promise that he’d be the first one to know about my college acceptances, so I suppose I’ll be talking to him soon, too.

That’s it for this week. Until next time,

Faye :)

P.S. Leave me some awesome questions and comments so we can have Part Two of "Super Happy Fun Time Q&A!"

WHO ELSE IS ON TEAM PENN???
