There is no day of the year more appropriate for a good dose of Sparku (SparkLife + haiku) than Valentine's Day: the holiday created for would-be poets to pour their hearts into schmoopie poopie proclamations of undead undying love. With only 17 syllables and no rhyme scheme or established meter, the Japanese poetic form makes for the perfect no-FAIL Valentine's verse. Observe:
Conversation Hearts
Chalky sugar heart,
What do you mean by, "I'M SURE?"
I didn't ask you.
Hallmark
More than two thousand,
But still not one card that says,
"Well, this is awkward."
Secret Admirer
You are my life now.
I need you like I need air.
Whoops. Was that out loud?
Carnations
The filler flower
Becomes a red rose when sent
At school, by your crush.
Cupid
Fat, little baby
With bow and arrow shoots man.
On the news at ten.
Opt Out
Valentine's Day is
A day in the second month.
That is all, thank you.
