How to Deal When You’re Partnered With Your Crush

Picture this: one day in chemistry class, your teacher starts pairing everyone up for a lab experiment. The girl you normally partner with is absent, God bless her, and who does your teacher choose to pair you with instead? Whether she’s trying to ruin your life or cut you a break, your teacher hooks you up with the very person you’ve spent the entire school year staring at. Don’t freak out: working with your crush is a blessing, not a curse! Here’s how to keep your panic attack on a leash…and possibly even play it somewhat cool.

1. Remember that this is a grade. You want to do well in school, right? Distraction will be all around you, literally, but you must focus on the task. Keeping your head down and working hard is the best way to get through it.

2. Don't look your partner directly in the beautiful, mesmerizing face. Try to forget who you’re working with. And do your best to not freak out at the sight of his sexy left ear, which is where you’ll be training your eyes whenever you have to converse.

3. If you’re nervous, ask her to do the dangerous parts. Don't spark a Bunsen burner or mix acids unless you're ready to handle it. If you’re all giddy from the proximity of your charming partner, you ought to let her take care of the potentially flammable stuff.

4. Act normal. Easier said than done, no? You’re probably asking yourself, “How could I act normal at a time like this?!” Well, you have to. You need to be in total control of your faculties if you’re going to remember what you did in order to not 1) fail or 2) look like an imbecile.

5. Attempt small talk. It’s your big chance to talk to your crush, so make sure to ask questions about the lab—even if you know exactly what you’re doing. If you can manage a few words without stuttering, you might come off as a smart and presentable human!

6. Don't worry about your appearance. Frankly, it doesn't matter. Your crush will be too busy trying to figure out what’s wrong with his left ear, considering you've been staring at it all period.
