Evana16, we totally, weirdly hear you on the pancakes & syrup thing. –Sparkitors
I was on Facebook the other day (as I am 79.3% of the time), and one of my friends posted the following: "long day. hmu." And I was like, huh? First I thought she meant to type “emu.” But then I figured she was trying to say "hang my underwear," and I was like, why does she want to hang her underwear? Then I Googled it and found out it means “hit me up.” Isn't that weird? No? Okay, fine. But you have to admit, there are definitely some weird acronyms out there. Like the following:
IMHO. You know what this looks like to me? “I'm a ho.” Both me and my friend thought it meant just that until we were told it meant, “I make hot oatmeal.” No, not really. It means “in my humble opinion,” but that doesn’t make it seem any less scandalous.
HHOJ/K. This one makes me think of pancakes and syrup for some reason. No idea why. Apparently it means “ha ha only just kidding,” which barely makes sense anyway. A friend thoroughly confused me when she sent this in a message, as in "I think ur face is ugly HHOJ/K!!!!!!!!!" And I was offended, because I thought she insulted me then randomly referred to pancakes. But HA HA SHE WAS ONLY JUST KIDDING! So, IAG.
IAG. Did I confuse you for a sec? Don’t worry, at first glance I thought this stood for “I ate George.” Really, I did. Don't ask me why, it's probably the same reason my brain processes HHOJ/K as “pancakes and syrup.” What it really means is “it's all good.” Weird, huh? Yeah. I really need to get another word for weird. I think I'll use the saurus, or, as it was formerly known, the thesaurus. But that just seems redundant to me.
LYLAS/B. This baffles me with its anomalousness (thank you, saurus!). I saw it in a comment on a friend’s picnic photo and learned that it means '”Love ya like a sister/brother!” O-kay.
Which chat acronyms sound the weirdest to you?
