Cartoons That Make Us Miss Being a Kid

Cartoons That Make Us Miss Being a Kid

This weekend, Facebook was covered in profile pictures of everyone's favorite childhood cartoons (as a show of support to stop child abuse). I don't know about you, but all those pictures made me pretty nostalgic for the good ol’ days of waking up early on Saturdays, eating pancakes, and sitting in front of the television for 9 hours—so in honor of my fond memories of being a kid, here's a list of my favorite cartoons.

1. Sailor Moon: This show was epic. It followed a group of young Japanese girls who find out that they're the reincarnations of sailor soldiers from thousands of years ago. They're charged with protecting the Moon Kingdom and earth from the Negaverse, who kept sending villains to try and take over.

2. TMNT (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles): Leonardo (the leader), Michelangelo (the laid-back dude), Donatello (the genius), and Raphael (the bad boy), were muscular, talking turtles with a penchant for pizza who lived in the sewers of New York City. They battled criminals and their nemesis Shredder under the guidance of their martial arts sensei Splinter (who just happened to be a giant rat). You may have seen the movie in theaters, but the cartoon is the best!

3. Pinky and the Brain: Two lab rats who want to escape their cage and “try and take over the world!” That’s pretty much it. The theme song rocked.

4. Animaniacs: Basically, it was all the Warner Bros characters interacting with famous people, mythological creatures, and sometimes even the creators of the show in different segments over the course of the episode. It captured my attention because each segment was really short but really hilarious, so it felt like I was watching 5 shows in a half hour.

5. Johnny Bravo. The show was about an over-the-top macho guy (with a funny Elvis voice) trying and failing to pick up chicks.

6. Transformers. I know it began way back in the mid-80s, long before most of us were born, but it continued in the 90s and I thought it was awesome. The show revolved around the Autobots and the Decepticons fighting over control of the earth. Best line: “Autobots! Roll out!”

7. Bugs Bunny and Tweety show: This show provided some of the best laughs of my childhood. It was a collection of shorts featuring the Warner Bros cast, and every episode was an instant classic.

8. Inspector Gadget. This gem revolved around the clumsy title character and his genius niece Penny trying to stop crime and fight Gadget’s nemesis, Dr. Claw. Gadget's a cyborg: part human and part machine, and he could call forth any gadget that he needed just by saying “Go-go-gadget!”.

9. Care Bears. Each Care Bear had a special symbol on its belly that represented its ability. Their mission was to guide small children and protect them from the baddies like No Heart, his niece Shrieky, and her sidekick Beastly.

What, no love for Doug or Hey Arnold? What were your favorite cartoons as a kid?
