The Perfect Playlist: Music Snob Edition

Thanks for introducing us to some new tunes, {Insert_Witty_Username_Here}!—Sparkitors

Pretty much everyone knows me as “that girl who brought her iPod to the dance so she wouldn’t have to listen to Justin Bieber"—and that's fine with me. I'm not ashamed to say that I'm pretty picky when it comes to the music I listen to, so I decided to put together a list of great songs by great artists. But be warned—these guys aren't exactly mainstream. Think you can handle it?

1. Hide and Seek by Imogen Heap: This is a beautiful song with amazing lyrics—and not even Jason Derulo can detract from its greatness.

2. Fell In Love With A Girl by The White Stripes: One of my favorite songs by my favorite band. Jack White’s amazing guitar skills, surprisingly real vocals, and multitasking abilities (he sings, plays guitar, and plays the keyboard at the same time) are perfectly paired with Meg White’s primal, steady drum rhythms. Here’s what I’m trying to say: WHITE STRIPES. BUY THEM. THEY ROK. (I spelled that wrong on purpose. It's more legit that way).

3. Marching Bands of Manhattan by Death Cab for Cutie: This is a rousing and catchy song with deep lyrics. Of course, that’s a good description of pretty much all of DCFC’s music.

4. The State I Am In by Belle & Sebastian: They don’t have the best singer, but the lyrics are astounding and hilarious and depressing and beautiful and ironic all at once. That takes skill. If you’ve seen Juno, you’ve heard them before, and they were even referenced in everyone's favorite movie, (500) Days of Summer. Now go forth and download. (Legally, please.)

5. Searching for the Ghost by Heartless Bastards: These guys have a unique sound and a great lead singer. The music is interesting and edgy. What more do you want? Cheesecake? Me too, buddy. Me too.

Do you have any indie faves to share?
